yet another St00pid question: Why do you replace distributor cap?
When the distributor spins around it is making contact with the points(?) and they are "rubbing" by them, and will eventually not make contact anymore...
ok, so the points are part of the distributor cap? that makes sense. I just couldn't figure out why a piece of plastic would need to be replaced...i'm sure it'll make sense when i get in there. This is for my girlfriends RS that we just got, making up a shopping list of stuff that it needs.
on my car the rotor insde the cap, for some reason the screw that hold it together had came off and made the the rotor hit against the metal points on the cap and now it's kinda mess up, but it still runs fine thou. you think i should replace the cap and rotor or just leave it. if so about how would the two part cost?

1. The metal contacts inside the cap, which are extensions of the spark plug wires, will wear and burn as time goes by. If ignored long enough, the car will start missing because it's not getting good spark.

Sorry for the F/S post, but if you've priced OEM parts separately, it's crazy expensive.

BTW, I replace cap/rotor at 20-30K, they are "cheap" soooo..
B18s and their fucin small-*** PITB rotor screw!!!!
Good luck w/ that one.
Also, when installing the cap, don't "over-tighin" it, as it might crack around where the bolts are if you do so.
Good luck.

Yeah, wiseass, but ITR plugs (at least) are different than rank & file Integras.
V. Mike will hook you up fo' sho'
SGT, i was just about to ask the same question. Is it true that the ITR has a different cap and rotor, compared to the other B-series engines. I could not find a aftermarket replacement for an ITR rotor. Acura is the only place that i can get them, and according to their part number its only for an ITR.?
I have used generic LS parts in the past with no problems.
This time around no autoparts stores had any in stock so i had to hit up
the dealer. I was surprised to see the part #. Also the cover inside the
distributor also was stamped p73, i dont see why it would be any different.
Im also using a b16a cap. <shrug>

Well Steve... you must be special
I dunno dude,
perhaps you have a distributor off the '99 Si' B16s and I had a cap off the older Del Sol and those were different...
maybe you made your's fit...
maybe they gave you the wrong cap and said it was a B16 and was really a B18... maybe the '94 B18C1 distributor was different than yours B16...
i dunno, but I know it didn't fit.

the itr rotor is thicker at the stem area. other than that, same as the P08 number that's normally used.
fyi, both are the same price.

it didn't fit yours? i'm not sure why.
so far ITR dist. rotor has worked on my 95 GSR distributor and a 99 Si distributor.
There's no reason why it wouldn't fit a GSR housing, since ITR and GSR share the same part number for the bare housing assembly.
but if you guys are talking about dist. caps, then the B16/LS and the ITR/GSR are different, and are NOT interchangeable.
ITR and GSR are 30102-P72-006
LS and B16 are 30102-PT2-026 or 30102-P54-006
