Default New to motor swapping..Any help is appreciated

Hey guys I have a few questions. Im helping a friend put a jdm b16 (obd1) into his 00 civic (ej8). Now Im looking for any help that you all can give me. Im sure I can figure it all out once I get started but Im very **** about knowing things before I start. I will have a helms manuel avaiable but advice from people that have already done this is thousands better. I have just a few questions but if you can add anymore help that you all had problems with that would be great!

1. First question is about wiring. I have told my buddy to get the conversion harness that goes inside the car. Converts the harness inside from obd2->obd1. But will the harness from the engine to the firewall, all match up? Someone has told me all I need is that harness inside and everything else will be in sync. Please verify

2. Second question is about things that have to be hooked up after we drop the motor in. Does someone have a list of things that all need to be hooked back up? i.e. ac lines, heater hose, throttle cable, oil lines, fuel lines, etc. I dont want to leave anything out. And like I said above Im sure I can figure it out when I dive in, but I like to have a list when Im doing my work.

Right now that is all the questions I have about the swap.
To those haters, dont get on here and tell me to take it to a shop. Im fully capable of the swap. I just like doing my homework on this stuff. I like taking to people who have done the swap and know the in's and out's of the process.

TIA

1. The OBD jumper will work plug and play.

2. I would suggest labeling everything so you don't miss anything. There is no actual check list that I know of.

No haters here man, this hybrid. DIY is the way most of us go.

Sweet, well looking around more on the net last night, I have found a list of things that need to be "undone" when taking a motor out. Im going to use that as a rought outline for things that need to be rehooked when putting the new motor back into the car, and add whatever as I go.

Main thing Im worried about is the wiring on the car. Is there any special wiring I need for the vtec on that motor? I have heard I need to wire two more wires?

Yea I was going to say that the Helms has a section on engine removal/installation so you can use that as a guide. I labeled everything and made sure it all got connected once the engine was back in.

As for vtec, it depends on what engine harness you are using. A non-ex engine harness would require that you add some wires. For my OBD2a swap using a non-vtec OBD2b harness I needed to add 4 wires (vtec solenoid, vtec oil pressure, ground, & knock sensor). These wires can then be integrated into the harness plug at the ECU.

Check out http://www.ff-squad.com/technet/ and the wiring thread here for some really helpful info (i.e. where to connect the new wires to the ECU). Also, I needed to swap some plugs because the engine sensors used different connectors than what was on my harness. Use Helms to verify what each wire does and swap plugs when needed. Good luck!

it is a EX so does that mean the wires are already ready?

I know the obd1 motors dont have knock sensors correct?

Also what mounts does he need to buy? I have heard numerous things but no real info. I have heard he needs the upper trany mount, and rear motor mount. I was talking to a kid today and he said we also need a bracket that bolts to the motor and the rear mount.

If the engine harness is EX then vtec is already wired. You may still need to move some of the pins on the ECU plugs but I'm not sure because my swap was a OBD2 B18C1.

As far as mounts goes, I needed the Si driver side upper mount (2 studs) and the rear motor mount (t-shaped bracket). I reused my stock civic mounts for all the others. Use the Helms to figure out exactly what engine mounts, torque mounts, and brackets are involved that way it's easier to understand what others are telling you.
