its probably your main fuel relay; very common problem with DAs, including mine. try taking off the dash panel right underneath your steering wheel and fiddling around with the relay and connector. when your engine light turns off you will be able to start the car just fine. my car used to do this when i turned it off and then turned it back on minutes later(when getting gas, stopping at a store or restaurant etc.). but now it usually only does it on saturday mornings lol.

wow. as a matter of fact, my car wont start this morning
i just went outside, its about 80 degrees out(every ******* time it wont start its warm and sunny out!) and my car turns over and over and over, but wont fire. the CEL was on, so i thought, hmmm, its the goddamn connector for the main fuel relay again. so i wiggle it around, until the light turns off, and voila! the car still wotn ******* start! this is starting to really **** me off; every other time this has happened its been the relay, and it takes me about 15 seconds to get the ar running. but apparently not this time. i can hear the frickin fuel pump too
and i JUST replaced the fuel filter 3 weeks ago. i really need help; i thought i had found the solution to this problem, and up until now i was right. i took the carpet off the passenger floor; no codes at all. ???

nope. i have recently replaced: plugs, dist. cap and rotor, and fuel filter. like once every 10 times i crank it, it starts for about 2 seconds, then dies even if i floor it when it starts. so i know its not ignition related. i am kinda low on gas; the light came on right before i got home last night, but i have over 2 gallons still in the tank. do fuel pumps go bad slowly? or do they just kinda take a **** on you without warning, and work fine until all of a sudden BAM it wont work? i tried to replace the main relay, but absolutley none of the piece of **** parts stores in my city have it
did i mention it only happens in late mornings/early afternoons when its hot and sunny? the last time this happened, the fuel filter was bone dry. but now theres lots of gas pouring out of it.

No, the OEM ones have a defect in to where they will intermintantly go out.

so this will cause the car to not get enough fuel even when the relay/pump are completely fine? thats one thing i thought about, but i know nothing about FPRs. every time this has happened to me, the car starts between a half hour to several hours after initially trying to start it. and its not like it struggles to start, it starts on the first crank just fine, like the other 365 days of the year

My new motor that I got from a 90LS, I put it into a 93, and I was having the same problem.
At the end, my friend's dad came and told us to run an extra ground wire from the battery to the block, and the car started right away. I said no way, because it has stated before.
So 2 days later, I took the car to the car wash, and I washed the engine, after I got home, the car won't start again, so I took the extra ground, cleaned the surface, and gave it a little more "wire brush", and the car started again , like a champ.
Try doing that, and see what happens.

Thats retarded, all you did was give the solder on the connections on your main fuel relay time to cool off. Why would you need to clean up the surface of a new "extra" ground that you JUST put on?

Well, since it was so retarded and it happend was last week and the car hasn't done it again, I'll answer you.
When I took off the bolt that was holding the ground wire to the block, I noticed that the area was not sanded down properly, so there were groves that allowed some of the engine brite soap in, making the connection between the ground wire and the block bad. So I took the wire brush, and made the area nice and even, and I also did the same for the ground wire. I put everything back in place, and now I no longer have any problems.
So, next time that you want to say that someone has said something retarded, please use the head that I hope you have in top of your shoulders, and think for a minute. You'll feel a lot smarter later.

Reread your first post, it would of made a lot more sense, if you had simply said that you had some soap stuck in your ground. All you said was you cleaned it and gave it some wire brush and it worked. That's what sounded retarded.
I'm happy you were able to figure out what was wrong on your own.
for some thinking outside the box. Good luck with the ride.

This is your main fuel relay. Thats the exact symptoms of the MFR's solder connections being old and in the heat and when the solder has worn down over the years, it doesn't give the connectivity that it used to.
You have 2 ways to go about fixing this.
1. You can go and get a new OEM MFR from the dealership.
2. Or you can DIY repair it, by pulling the MFR and re-soldering the connections, this works just as well.
Do a search on Main Fuel Relay, and it'll help you do this.
I suggest just to DIY because it's WAY cheaper than going to the Stealership and paying for a new one. They're kinda pricy, like 80-100 bux if i'm remembering right.

take off the plastic cover underneath the steering rack, where the little coin holder is. its to the left of the rack, with a yellowish connector on the bottom of it. its bolted to the firewall.
found the main fuel relay...how will you know if its bad or not...i mean mine smelled kinda burn, but i think thats normal...and the soldering looks kind funky and dirty....is that the problem.???
People.. buy a helms manual or the ones from autozone.. they give you step by step info on how to pin point problems or atleast narrow your search down.
and they will tell you how to check relays to see if they are bad.

I am also having a weird problem with my car. I have a 92 GS. When I took it to work, left it for 9 hours, came back and it wont start at all. It turns over just fine, but thats about all it does. I thought it might have been because I was low on gas (My e-light was on for awhile) but I filled it up and that didn't solve any problems. When I turn it over I smell gas, so I wouldn't think it's the fuel pump. The last 2 tanks before this I got about 30% less MPG though, so I don't know whats up with it. Any ideas?
