Exhaust cutout on a Type R ?? Ever been done ??
I was just toying around with the idea of an electronic exhaust cutout.. you know, at the flip of a switch being able to run open exhaust? All the benefits of a stock exhaust as well.

I know Ken (Black R) had something like this a while back. Not sure if it was electronic or mechanical, though. Probably the latter.

Kenny's too ghetto to have anything electronic.
It was mechanical and it was a pain. It leaked too.

I have a cutout on my GSR, ITR swap. It works well just put heat wrap on the wire or make it so it's nowhere near the opening. I've melted my wire so many times I can't even count. Overall I like my cutout though.
I bought a cheaper (no electric switch) exhaust cutout for my R, and it should be on by spring. I figure I'll just use it at the track to hopefully get better spool-up time and a little extra power.
For the DIY guys....Apparently it has been done using a mustang throttle body or something large of that nature.
Obviously all the sensors will have to be removed and any other misc. bits/pieces that are not metal...unless you like having a potential fire under your car

if you have intensive mods with a standalone, will you need 2 different maps for the cutout and without the cutout?
I can see how it would relate to a turbocharged motor, but NA also?
Or is this a totally dumb question?

A video of a guy with the cutout can be seen here

Because with less back pressure, people have the ability to make more power.
It is also a LOT easier to attain the above statement without having to jack up the car and use tools.
