Default spark plug gap and heat range - does it affect fuel richness?

i have read that the stock gap for a b16 is .043 and from some searching, some people advise gapping in the .024 - .038 range (although it seemed to be more geard towared nitrous or FI).

i'm using the ngk bkr7e's at stock gap with ctr pistons. i'm running just slighly rich but this crome map is pretty stable otherwise.

i was curious: first of all am i using the right heat range plug? second of all, if i change the heat range OR the gap, could that possibly make the combustion more efficient, thereby leaning out the afr?

got a fuel pressure regulator? Just take a couple psi out.

i did that. i got as low as 31psi and it was still a bit rich. so i adjusted the fuel maps a bit. that helped, and it allowed me to be up in the 37psi range. anyway before i tweak the fuel again (either at the regulator or in the ecu) i wanted to find out how the spark plugs affected the combustion and see if that might balance things out....

b16 with ctr pistons - do i want a hot or cool plug and what gap should i aim for and why? it's one thing to follow a how-to. it's another thing to understand why.

like how & why hi-compression motors or lo-compression motors benefit from different heat-range plugs as well as different gaps? and how do different heat ranges or gaps effect the efficiency of the combustion? is there anyone out there that can drop some spark plug knowledge on us? after doing some searching, i seem to get mixed opinions with no real depth.
