If the car didn't come with any documentation proving the legality of the swap, being that you're in Cali and the tranny VIN is missing, then I would have stayed away.
And what is this doing in the Integra forum?
And what is this doing in the Integra forum?
definitely report the motor to the chp, and check the back for another vin. in the second pic, the engine looks like its slanted to the right(left of car), maybe just the angle you took the pic?
angle of the pic.the car is registered, it has documentation of registration, i have the info of the original owner, i should probably contact him.damn that **** pisses me off......BTW it's on the integra forum because the motor is a GSR......
dont listen to these guys, thats a hot transmission alright the tag doesnt just "fall off".. if you report it to the chp they gonna take action meaning YOUR gonna take the loss... since there is no paper work documenting the previous owner swapped it.. plus thats a b-series in a EG they gonna make you go to state ref in which case you will never I mean never get the car registered
the car may be registered, but its always registered as the vehicle make and model. Nowhere on your title does it state what motor you have ( at least mine doesn't
).
Like Happy_Guy said, there's no reason why that tag should not be there unless there was something the original owner did not want people to know. From my understanding, those tags are rivited on there. Correct me if I'm wrong, but either way......if it was totally legit, everything that should be there....should be there.

really?? When did they start saying it was illegal in CA? I mean....I know the years of the motor had something to do with it or something.

i've seen people have legal swap with DOHC motors in hatches, it's possible.the only thing i'm worried about it the motor being hot, if i get pulled over with a diff. motor then **** i can just sell it, but the fact that it's HOT makes things more sketchy, i wouldn't mind as much if hte motor wasn't hot.
yeah 3500, no wonder the price was so low.....**** i'm gonna get my lawyer on this guy, btw i can get any car 1998 and under smogged for $50 so i'm not worried about smogging.i just dont want to have a hot motor, isn't that considered GTA

where did you get the information that dohc in a eg is illegal? so you think hes better off getting thrown in jail if he gets pull with a hot swap?

i can't report it to the CHP without gettin in trouble myself?i could just say i had no idea untill a friend pointed it out.i JUST bought the car 2 days ago.
ummm...well....you could get into trouble. They see it as you in possession of stolen property. If....it is indeed stolen ( which it most likely is ). They'll also tell you that YOU have the sole responsibility of checking everything out first before you bought it. Even...if you didn't know. I know...it sucks.
You should try to fight to get your money back.
It's a given that the previous owner will not just budge and take his car back then hand you your money.
So, fight for the money and then report his *** to the CHP. I know, I know. It's easier said than done.

hmm..
one hand - bring it to CHP... chance of losing car...chance of getting screwed for buying "stolen property"
other hand - living with yourself knowing that some part of your car could be hot.
other other hand - you can just buy a new tranny to have the self relief that nothing was stolen off the car (that you know of)
* Not trying to promote rockin stolen property but what can you do now *
Sorry that you have a head ache on your hands. If anything, my buddy is selling a GSR tranny.

It's on the block.....hmm Im thinking, there should be a way to change the vin on your block. It's not engraved like the engine code i.e. B18C1 - I have my engine sitting in my living room and I can see the VIN and it looks like something you can pull off and put another one in it. If you can do that, then go for it....but u can always get into trouble if they run the vin #

do you really want to dig the hole you are in any deeper?
i know it suck that you got a hot motor, but if you do get pull one day. do you want to get charge another offense for forging it as another car's motor.

dude, why they **** are you and everyone else making this harder and more confusing then it really is?
first off, $50 for smog is ******* bullshit. thats for a regular smog homie. the lowest for illegal smog is $200. a car with a different motor doesnt pass smog, you dumb ***. the fine for illegally smogging someone's car is a couple thousand bucks and jail time, so im shure whoever said they'll do it for $50 aint gonna do it for $50, and probly wont do it at all
DOHC in an EG CAN be legal, but that would require that you swap it in EXACTLY how it was in the integra, which means no ghettofied ****, which that car probly has a bunch of. plus you gotta pay money. PLUS you gotta go to state ref, and thats kinda hard, seeing as how you got NO # ON YOUR TRANSMISSION. oh yea, getting the car bar'd requires PAPERS FOR THE MOTOR
ok, so making it legal aint gonna work
smogging it for $50 aitn gonna work either
reporting to chp will leave you without a motor, car, or even get you in trouble
ill tell you your choices right now
1)get the car illegally smogged(assuming you have a connection), register it and dont do anything to get your hood popped
2)run the #'s on the motor see if it's clean or not, swap out the tranny with one from the junkyard, that way if your hood get popped you wont be holding stolen goods. BUT, you will still have to go to ref which will screw you in your ***
3)buy a new motor and tranny and swap it in, making shure not to ghettofy anything, and go to ref to get it bar'd. oh yea, when you go to the ref, you cant have ANY MODS. everything has to be FACTORY spec. i'd say dont pick this choice cuz it would mean that you paid 3500 for a shell, a fucked up one at that
those are your three choices. swaps in cali are hot(dangerous) period, because they are illegal if you dont go through ref. everyone I know technically has a illegal swap. whats worse is that in this situation, your swap is super hot.
i've bought a crx before with an LS swap. it was off someone I knew though and he signed a contract stating that he put the motor in there. so i had nothing to worry about cuz where i live cops hardly ever make you pop your hood unless they catch you at the street races.
wtf were you thinkin when you bought this car? didnt you have anyone go with you?
its not that bad really because only the tranny is missing #'s the block still got #'s so im ASSUMING its legit.
what i would do personally is just illegal smog and drive it carefully
but since you seem like you dont know jack **** about cars or anything illegal, my personal advice to you; sell the car
if anything happens "i dont know what you're talking about and I dont know that wasnt suppose to be there, I just bought it off this guy name ____ _____"
