need honda help, buying a crx
hey everybody my name is dustin. i drive a nissan, but i'm looking at buying a CRX as a daily driver so i can rip my Z apart this winter and rebuild it. i don't know much about honda's and have a few questions ( i searched! ).
here is all the info I have about the car:
1990 honda crx si 1.6 5 spd. (213k)
new:
cam
allbelts
tie rod ends
tires
clutch
brakes(exception see below)
cv shafts
head gasket
alternator
bad:
needs distrubtor runscurrently just hasa rough idle.
needs a rear caliper and pads. pass side real caliper is toast. i rebuilt it and it didnt help so it needs a new one.
i can install both items for cost of parts.
cd player- componets in the door 5.25(i belive) anda tweeter.
tinted windows
usual honda rust.
35 mpg!!!
1500 obo i want this thing gone asap!
The only thing that bothers me is the idle problem. from what i read in the faq this seems to be a common problem with crx's, but i didn't see anything about the distributor being the cause. could this be the cause? my Z has individual coil packs, so i've never dealt with a distributor before.
i've seen the car in person, but the owner wasn't home so i havn't heard it run or driven it. if it's misfiring i'm walking, but if it's just a rough idle, do you guys think its worth it?
blue book is 1025, so this is my top offer. im going to offer him 800 and see how he reacts. too low?
any help is appreciated, if i buy it i'll probably end up a regular here lol

sounds good. Id definetly low ball and ask for less. He should take at least 1k or lower. As for the idle, drive it frist and see what kind of rough idle hes talking about.
ive had idle problems with my z, but it was always vacuum related.
do you know what kind of idle a bad distributor would cause? are we talking +/- a few hundred or almost stalling or racing up a few thousand and back.
i'm going to look at it tonight, if its not too bad im going to buy it, just trying to find out as much as possible before hand

it could definitely be the distributor... on my 89 si crx there was a tiny crack inside the cap and it would only fire 3 cyclinders while at idle... went to autozone for $13 and up it on in 10 minutes and it ran fine
