Too many changes. They change stuff so much year to year that you almsot have to buy a new bike to keep with a year model difference. Not a good business tactic. Why buy Model X when next year Model X will come with added extras for the same price? This happens over and over again...
Lack of quality in components used. Many times I get the same Yammy part broken and I cant replace it becasue the rest of the world broken theirs as well. So it sits on back order for months and I am the one who has the problem and has to deal with impatient customers? Take it up with Yamaha and their lack of quality parts pal. But what do they do? Rather than warrenty a bad part, they let it run out and get people angry at them.
I cant speak for other companies, but i can defend my favorite. Honda had a problem with a select lot of 929 clutches lat year. Rather than make the consumer pay for the new parts like Yammy would, they warrentied ALL 929s from that year. That how you do business. This was not a safty issue either. It was a bad lot of plates that had bad waer properties. They also strengthend a couple other parts free of charge. Also their contacts are rude and obnoxious. I dont care for their styling and have found most R1 owners think their **** dont stink!!!
Thats my beef with Yamaha. Any more question? Ill be happy to answer them.

Have you done any maintenance on 954s yet? That filter is a biatch to get off behind the header pipe. I could find no good tool for this as the cap type wrench had no clearance in front of the filter and behind the pipe. (cowlings stayed on

the shop manual AND the owners manual say to take off the cowling, but I refuse to do this cause I'm lazy. I got if off by SQUEEZING the cap wrench past the filter and the header pipe. But it was scary thinking I would trap the filter by doing this.
It was also a houdini act getting the filter out, but with a few girations and some good cussing, it eventually was coaxed out
. I used clean latex gloved hands to put the new filter back on and torque to 20ftlbs
tested the bike under load and no leaks.
