my 3500 mile review of the 05 sti that i got to replace the R
i still always visit this site and if anyone had thought about selling the r for an evo or sti I thought you might like to know one mans opinion of the common upgrade from the R. first the gas milage is noticably worst as you would expect. i would always get more than 300 miles per tank with the r a/c on all the time here in
vegas and occasional spirited driving. the sti same type of driving gets about 225 to 250. the r is just such a flat handler its just so easy to control and i doubt that
a replacement exsists out there under $50K i have been pushing the sti and it handles great dont get me wrong but not like the R. I believe the sti an inch lower
would go along way to improving its manners. The sti is a subaru and i have driven hondas for 10 plus years and the build quality is just better hands down.
i expect the ride to be ruff. I expect the brakes and suspension and drive train to
make noise. but the small rattles here and there annoy me as i am an **** A$$
The power is what makes me not regreat my choice to go with the sti. I did consider the evo but had heard so many stories about low low quality and
the interior IMHO cant touch the sti. i miss the revving of the R but when the
power hits on the sti from 2500 to 6200 its just so pleasing that you never
really need to get near the 7000 redline. it took a while to get used to the
6 speed but now i feel it is as good as any. Sorry to ramble but if anyone wanted
another persons opinion/review of a possible change/upgrade from the R well
here it is. thanks for reading and keep those R's safe!!!!

Gee, then by that logic, I must get WAY better gas mileage in my NSX than my ITR, because I usually get 350-400 miles per tank in the NSX, versus 250 or so in the ITR. The fact that I usually fill the NSX with around 15 gallons, versus 10-11 in the ITR, must have nothing to do with it.

Gee, I get like 400-450 miles per tank in my CL-S, so it must be better than your NSX!

Funny stuff! I was thinking the same thing.
To go off on a tangent, how do insurance rates compare for the two cars?

Whew! Thanks to Ken I don't feel bad about my Lincoln Town Car and Integra getting the same "MPG". They both get 300 miles on a tank!

We LOVE tangents around here!
I'm paying more for insuring my '01 ITR than my '91 NSX (about $900/year vs $700/year with the same coverages by State Farm). A newer NSX would cost more to insure than I'm paying, of course.
I'm sure that in the insurance company calculations, the substantially higher cost of NSX body repairs, theft claims, etc is offset by a lower frequency of claims.

I drove the STi about 4 months ago and that made me not want to buy a AWD car. Interior is gorgeous, gauge cluster is sick, the water-spray is cool just because I like gadgets but the handling was close to a dump truck. Maybe if I lived in CO. and had mountains and trails to drive the thing I'd actually enjoy it. If I got any other car I'd have to invest in a RWD car. The power of the Sti is great, I wouldn't even mod it, however I hate how the only way to get the car to rotate is to lift throttle in corners, but once you get the thing sideways it wants to correct itself and throw you the opposite way. A little bit lower of ride-height and stiffer springs rates should have helped out but the car is just not for me. If they made a kit to convert to RWD I'd be all over that thing.
JDM Factor - I believe The STI has a VCD with and adjuster switch on the canter console. If you want to, you could send all the power to the rear wheels just by adjusting the vcd...

I thought the same for a while but finally warmed up to the new front end... Can't wait to see what mitsu has in store for EVO X to compete

i miss the R in many ways but i love the power and acceleration of the STI
