need help plz
having no radio is making me crazy. the problem is that the radio isnt getting power all of the time. for instance sometimes there is power going to the radio and sometimes there isnt. i was wonder if there could be a short somewhere and if there is how can i find it?
Need more info, year and model of car.
If it's a Honda, I would check for these things, check the fuses, both the one in the in car fuse box, [radio fuse, acc.] and the one in the engine bay fuse box, [radio back up power fuse, constant, probably a 7.5A] first "wiggle' the fuses in their sockets, [to see if that cuts the radio off and on] also pull the fused and make sure they are not defective, [not blown, broken, normally where fuse filament connects to the fuse "legs"] the other, not so uncommon problem with oem Honda/Acura HUs is the connections to the circuit board of the HUs power/speaker plug, you will need to pull the HU out to check this, unless you can reach the radio harness plug and wiggle it a little bit.

car is 93 accord lx, could u happen to get me a diagram of the inside fuse box b/c the inside one doesnt tell me what power i need. also i checked the fuses under the hood and their all ok.
What kind of short? I don't think the problem you are having is a short, probably an intermittent open circuit. And as I have explained you have to find where the "opening" is happening, and the 3 I mentioned are the 3 most common on a Honda/Acura, now it can still be other things, but it is not a short, a short would blow the fuse and it would not work again until fuse is replaced.

jeah so i wiggled the harness sometimes the HU powers up but the speakers wont work until later on, or the HU constantly turns on and off then completely off. Also does the lighter outlet have to do with anything? because it doesnt glow up when i turn on my lights.

What harness did you wiggle? If it is an aftermarket HU, is a radio harness adpt. being used or is the HU harness hard wired to the oem radio harness?
The fact that the lighter housing illumination does not work, has little or nothing to do with the power for the HU, they are 3 diff. circuits, with 3 diff. fuses the HUs constant power is fused in the under hood fuse box, the HUs acc. power is fused in the under dash fuse box, the lighters illumination is controlled by the dash light circuit through the dimmer control and is fused in the under dash fuse box.
If the lighter illumination is not working the bulb is burnt out or it is not plugged in. Does the lighter work?

I didnt know which one to wiggle so i just unplugged it and replugged it. so, am i suppose to wiggle it with the car on? also is there any way to fix this problem? i am using a radio harness adpt. i have no lighter -_-. sometimes i see the lighter illumination glow when i hit a bump.
Yes do the "wiggling" with the car on and the HU, sometimes it's just a poor connection, and you can narrow it down by "wiggling" less and less, sometimes right down to the wire that has the bad connection, we know it's probably the acc. wire, [red] but where on the red, probably at a connection.
As for the lighter housing light, it could be a connection problem power or ground, or it could be the bulb, [broken filament]

With the HU now staying on but no sound, I would want to check for a short on a speaker wire or a speaker itself, a short would trigger the HU "protection circuit" and shut down the HUs internal amp, [no sound] You really need a multimeter to do this, but you can try fading/balancing out a short , see if you can get sound by fading all the way to the front or back and balancing all the way right or left, or you can disconnect all the speakers, and connect them up one at a time and see if you can get sound, both the above ways will only work as long as not all the speakers or speaker leads are shorted out.
If all the connections have been checked and/or repaired and you can't find a short I would guess that there is a problem in the HU itself
