like someone already said, try to get references. Its usually a good sign if a person is well known on a message board, even better if he has well known members backing his word. But even these people can turn into liars and or thieves. Get home address phone number etc. If youre doing business via paypal make sure the person is verified so you can get your money back. On the other hand if youre a seller careful giving out such info. You dont want some crackhead tracking you down and spraying your car with brake fluid because you didnt sell them your tranny for $300
And dont send a part cod without a deposit because the person might deny it if they find a cheaper price and youre stuck with shipping.

Paypal has this option. You can look up a user and see if it has verified. If its verified that means that they have added their personal banking account info which was verified through paypal when they (paypal) deposit some low number figures say 10c and 20c .. when the person logs back into paypal and has a bank statement they enter in those numbers and become verified. You cannot fake this due to the fact that alot of ID is required to get the right kind of bank account. Check into this guys
