what type of hid are guys using??
I am going to retrofit in some s2000 projectors soon and use hella gen 3 ballasts and philips d2s bulbs. I have heard good things about this setup.
Coincidence, just installed these not too long ago. Full write up: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1371919
Did the rebased bulb kit, from a company claiming to have the arc placed properly and guaranteed beam pattern and whatnot, and that didnt work.

IMO dont just slap in some rebased bulbs in your stock projectors, you may think you getting better lighting but your beam pattern is gonna suck. there are a few threds about this and you get so much more usible light from a retrofit with hid projectors then you do when you use stock projectors. plus you dont get all the hot spots that you would with halogen projectors

I bought a set of CN Light HIDs...theyre some japanese company (i never heard of them before) They're specifically for projector housings and it came with 6000k bulbs...and they were dirt cheap! Fitting is pure plug and play with no additional wires to be hooked up. In my opinion theyre freekin amazing, absolutely pure white light, and they light up the road 100 times better than the stock halogens. I only have the one picture of them at night so far.

Not to hijack the thread, but does anybody know where they sell 9006 HID bulbs for cheaper then $100 a pair. Thats the cheapest I found on eaby.

Mercedes Benz S430 Retrofit, I really really really really advise you not to get one of those plug and play kits just because they are easier to use. THe difference is night and day between retrofit and a kit.

I don't really care where it was made, it was cheap and it works well!
Heres few pix i took only minutes ago. I know theyre probably not as good as retrofit merc or BMW items but they do the job i wanted them for and the light up the road real good.

i know most people like retrofitting, but honestly, not alot of us are as talented as others, and if you get someone else to do them, your cost of getting hid jumps significantly.
just my .02

Does anyone on HT do the top notch retro fitting for a fee?? I am running some Philips Ultinon 6000k bulbs and love them, but am curious to actually see the difference between a retro fit vs. the stock projectors. I have a feeling the pictures being posted don't tell the true story.
well here's the thing jdmvtec28, its going to be quite costly, pending on what retrofit you want to get will contribute the cost, for example, s2k retrofit just for the complete assembly, projector, d2s bulb, and ballast will usually run around 300-350 pending on how lucky you are. and now is the tricky part, if you get it sent out to somebody to do it, than your car is going to be out of commission for so and so period of time, unless you buy another pair of stock headlights, whether it be 94-97 or 98-01 to compensate for hte lost time, that'll probably roughly be 150-200 used, just doign ball park figures, some may get it cheaper than others some may not. its a matter of sourcing parts at the right time and getting lucky. now let's just say 500 technicaly speaking for just the retrofit and this is just for someone else doing it, minus the cost of what the person is charging and of course shipping and blah blah, so iunno, its debatable.
i've seen good retrofits and i've seen shitty retro's mostly s2k though. some turn out mint, some turn out no different than rebased except for a crispier cut off, but for hte extra 200 spent for hte cut off, i'll take that 200 and buy me a jdm goodie or something.
to each there own.
-> i might get bashed by all the retrofitters, but this is once again my .02
and there was a guy that did retrofitting on here, but i think he stopped can't remember his name. check hidplanet.
-> and of course let the flaming begin, if there isnt' thank for you not flaming on my input.

If I were to go retro I think I would source an extra set of headlights in advance to cut down on downtime, plus in the event I wasn't satisfied with the results I could always go back to regular. My question is, is there anyone here on HT that does the retro conversion and is reputable?
