SAD STORY!!!!! =(
I can't belive this has happened. The ITR DC2 has been my dream car for about 3 years now. My previous rides were evo 3, 200sx s15, Subaru Sti 2-door my99. Even after all those turbo's, i finaly had a taste of v-tech in my civic i bought about a year a go. It was great b16a2, feeling the n/a engine. I was hooked. From there on did everything to get my hands on a dc2 99 model type R, as i heard it was the cream of the crop. I also has test driven a couple b4 and felt that it was a big step above the b16a2 civic i had.
Finaly the day came i got my car (around 3 weeks ago).A yellow 1999 TYPE R, stock. I was cashless, didn't even have registration. It sat in my garage for about 2 weeks, and i'd take it out for a cruise at night times, when i missed it. I loved it! finaly around a week ago i saved up enough for registration and get the car on the road. I had read so much about the car, its handling characteristics, and so fourth, and how it was dubbed the worlds best front-wheel drive. This gave me a false sense of over-confindence in the car. The car was completly stock.
One night going home, the roads where empty. the roads ahead the abit windy, and i thought this would be a good chance to give it a little. I pumped it up, and ended up UNDERSTEERING heading into a slight bend at around 90kms. the car twisted i backed off straight away off the gas, and tried to correct my steering, BUT I COULDNT!!, Before i new it my *** was slidding so fast, tail fishing over infront of me, doing a 180, and jumping up into the curve, and hitting a couple of poles, which slammed on the side of the car.
I was in shock, and couldnt move. I couldn't believe what had happened. I went out and saw the damage, and its was DAM BAD. The front drivers side wheel had popped so i quickly changed that before any cops came and slowley was able to drive home. I spent the whole night in the garage looking at my baby. I was so sad, what an idiot i was.
I'm in my last year of university, and all my assignments are due soon. AHH MAN. THIS SUCKS. I'm going to get a couple of qoutes on the job tommowow. I'm going to put the tyre back on and see if it drives okay. I've gotten under the car, and all the suspension still seems okay.
The play is to:
-fixed the poped wheel, and get the wheel back on the car.
-if drivable, get a wheel alignment. (this will tell me if any of the components in the suspension has been damaged RIGHT????)
-then once it drives okay, start with the body work. The chasiss and engine seems okay, which i'm lucky, its just the suspension i'm worried about!
Can some1 please tell me if i'm on the right Track?? i'm so sad this happened and have learnt LOTS!!!!!!!!!!! DAMMIT!!, I"M GONNA GET BETTER SUSPENSION IF I WANNA GO AROUND CORNERS FAST!

This is the main reason why so many people here push going to a HPDE, the ITR is and can be a handful.
sorry about your crash, but be glad your alive... A few people have died because of lack of experience.

it's not the suspension that's at fault, it's the driver, that is a classic case of lift off oversteer and will happen to just about any car when you dive into a corner and suddenly lift off the gas pedal in the middle of the turn.
when the car is all patched up, take it to the track so that you can fully appreciate it's handling and gain experience driving. good luck with the repairs.

The STOCK type R is fully capable of giving you some nice thrills around corners.
Crashing your car, was simply an act of inexperience, it can happen to the best of us!
did you have insurance?
but i would get your car to a track before your convinced the suspension was the problem, because the Type R is a real bitch some times when it starts to slide and public roads are more unforgiving

You think of that one all by your self, slick?

Damn sorry about what happened, but you live and you learn. Post up some pictures and take it easy on the streets. Driving the car to its max should be done at a track like people have stated.

I admit, lack of experiance, and the stupidity of pushing it hard. I'm just gald it was only me the crashed, and that i didn't hurt any1 else, or hit any1 else.
I've learnt alot from the responces to my topic. Especaily about the backing off gas during a corner. It all makes sense. My wheel is getting repaired and should be back in a couple of days. once that goes on my suspension will be checked out the the body. It just hurts me so much when i see me car every morning.
Thanks guys for your comments and support. I will takes pics soon when i can get my hands on a digital camera.

Correct, the same setup that makes it one of the best handling front wheel drive cars ever made is the same thing that makes it an almost sure bet for someone without proper experience to wreck it.
The understeer was likely caused by going into the corner wayyyy too hot, and we all know the cause of the oversteer afterwards.

Sorry to hear your bad luck, but as others have said lifting off was your mistake, if you had feathered the accelerator to keep the power to the wheels it would have corrected itself and you could have driven it around the bend...it may not have been the most graceful of manouveres but you would have got round so long as the tyres were in good condition and the road reasonably dry. I hope it doesnt take too much to fix and you get it back on the road soon. You learnt a hard lesson, but you werent hurt and its only a car at the end of the day, it can be repaired or replaced.

Whoa! It takes a real cool dude to point out that someone is overweight! Good job, you've proven yourself to be a winner!

No offense, but for a college senior, your grammar is horrible.
Anyway, sorry for your loss. Like others have said, your current suspension is plenty capable enough. Take her to a track/auto-x. You'll see what we're talking about. Good luck with the repairs.

Try South Australia, which is where in Australia Adelaide is located.

your dumb.. should have gotten two way insurance before mashin it on the streets.. that way if you crash you just run away and say your car got stolen..
and you shouldnt have been going so fast doing crazy turns so soon after getting the car
i've had my GSR for like 3 months yesterday i was going maybe like 35 made a crazy *** left turn into a park and there was a ******* barrier that somebody put there i almost went head on into it good thing i got skills i stepped on brake hard and streered left with one hand and act like it wasnt nothing.. but i was real close to ****** my self up!
