Hey guys I am looking to sign up for an upcoming event and need some new tires... I am interested in buying a set of the new azenis and i am sure those are a fenominal tire.
My question is has anyone here done a track event with the Kuhmo Ecsta spt. tire in a 205 50 15. and if you have what did you find from the tire... good bad... likes dislikes.. the difference in tires is only 30 bucks so money is not an issue.. i would just like to get some feed back on this kuhmo tire... thanks
it says its a ultra high performance SUMMER tire. But not all performance like the azenis.... so i guess ill let you guess tell me what your experiences were.
Thanks
Mike

The SPT does not compete with Azenis for grip, you should be looking at the MX.
Both tires are squirmy on track until ~50% worn for the MX and ~40% worn for the Azenis.

ok.. how does the MX compete on the track. Good ?
so if i read your comment right ... the azenis and the ecsta will not be too stable until they are well worn in? is that right

The MX is fine on track as long as worn ~50% or more. They will be "stable" but not as fast until worn a good bit, and same goes for the new Azenis (not the OLD Azenis though).
The SPT (Kumho Ecsta SPT), the RT-615 (Falken Azenis RT-615), and the MX (Kumho Ecsta MX) are three entirely different kinds of tires.
The SPT is a budget performance tire, designed for those looking to get decent performance on the street without spending a lot of money. It replaces the Kumho Ecsta Supra 712 in Kumho's lineup. It competes against the Yokohama AVS ES100 (to which the 712 was decidedly inferior). It's characterized by okay dry traction, outstanding wet traction, excellent treadlife (25-35K miles), and low cost ($67 for 195/55-15, $63 for 205/50-15).
The RT-615 is a specialty tire. Think of it as a cross between an R compound track tire, and a very good street tire. It's designed to do well on the track and in autocrosses. It's characterized by outstanding dry traction, okay wet traction, short treadlife (expect 10-12K miles on an ITR), and somewhat high cost ($92 for 205/50-15).
The MX is Kumho's top-of-the-line street tire. It's not quite as good as the very best street tires out there (e.g. Bridgestone Potenza S-03, Goodyear F1 GS-D3, etc) but it's not as expensive as those, either. It's characterized by excellent dry traction, excellent wet traction, very good treadlife (20-25K miles), and moderate cost ($80 for 205/50-15).
It all comes down to what you care about the most. If you primarily want tires to do well at your track event, then get the RT-615. If you primarily care about how much you spend and how long your tires last (which is basically the same thing), then get the SPT. If you want something in between - performance with an eye towards value as well - then the MX is a good choice.

Great insight. So I guess the SPT's would be the summer counter part to the Falken Ziex 512's I am going to run for fall and winter? I want good summer performance that won't break the bank since I will run the 512's for the cold weather.
Sorry to thread jack.

Yes, the SPT would be a good choice for that purpose.
