Default URGENT Gushing Transmission Fluid, Please Help

OMG please help me,

i am having troubles with my tranny keeping it's fluids down. everytime i open the cap to fill it with transmission fluid, some of it spews out of the filler hole it has been leaking ever since i refilled the transmission today and i'm wondering if the transmission is too full. i have my civic as level as possible but i'm not sure if the fluid is spewing out because it is overfilled, or brcause it may be at a slight declining angle...

if anyone else has experienced this problem please help

ps i'm writing this while the car is on the road so any quick advice would be awsome. thanks guys...

I take it this is an auto?

Im gonna take a guess its over filled, it needs room to expand once it heats up so thats probably it. Keep an eye on it to make sure it dosent get past the low mark on the dipstick.

Did you put the crush washer back on? Or torque it down correctly?

so, when you fill it when it is cool it is at the correct level, but when it heats and expands it goes above the filler level... so if you open while it is hot the fluid that is supposed to be in there spews out so it is not at the proper level any more.

is this normal or should i get off the road and let my engine cool then fill it again to the proper line or should it be okay to drive another 100 miles with whatever fluid is left?

Let the tranny cool and refill it to the right level on a level ground. Once it's filled to the right level, there should be no reason to open the filler plug again. Also use a new crush washer on the filler bolt and torque it to spec. I am almost positive it's 33ft-lbs. Oh, check to see if the breather cap is on and make sure it's pulled up a little so it can breath. If you have the breather cap with an F on it, make sure it's pointing 30 degrees to the passenger side. It's been a little while since I did all my tranny work, but what I have said should be correct. If you have a manual, double check with it.

i've gone about 20 mi with no damage/probs i can hear or feel. do you think that there could be any major tranny damage if i lost 1/2 a quart?

how long would it take for this dammage to occur under freeway coasting, if it will happen?

should i let it cool down and refill it even though i'm not noticing any problems?

the driver of the car is an old ht member who cant get online right now and appreciates the help you guys are giving us.

Is your vehicle on and in gear during this?

Nope, the car was not turned on and it was not in gear (perhaps the parking break was on instead of neutaral).
thanks for the feedback

No its different with a manual,

the oil should just be coming out of the filler plug. IE be level with that. So if its coming out of there its overfilled, so let it all drain out and put the plug back in. Pretty simple.

Since its a manual it uses regular motor oil actually and not trans fluid, so it wont expand like auto trans fluid will.

I noticed that your a trial member so hit me up on Aim - Angloscuro and I'll help you out some more on there.

Use honda MTF because it's gear oil. you can use motor oil, but honda has change to MTF.

10-30 is the recommended weight, but 5-30 will work, too.
