Default Opinion Needed on Sleeving. Please

Hey guys we'll im planning on sleeving my b18c1. And I am not familiar with the process at all along with the prices and which sleeve is good. But a local guy offered me a deal and it goes like this,

What do you mean cracked outside? Also, Golden Eagle will remove your exsisting sleeves and install new sleeves. We go with the HD series sleeve which is good for 1300 WHP or 70 pounds of boost which ever somes first. You would just bring us the block, it usually takes 1-1.5 months to get this process done (Time varies). We have 2 package deals to choose from - I suggest the better package deal of #2:

Choice #1:
Hot Tank
HD sleeves
Bore and Hone
Shipping (there and back)
Tax included for $1000

Choice #2:
Hot Tank
HD Sleeves
Bore and Hone
Final Bore and Hone
O-ringing the block (for a better head gasket seal)
Shipping both ways ($1200)

please tell me if its a good deal or not, and if you have any better deals or idea please do leave your input down.

Thanks guys

from the way you said he explained it to you.i would just call up the following people.

benson's
erl
golden eagle

those 3 are your best choices.if i were you i would not do o-ring....a thing piece of wire will seal, but why not have it step decked and the thickness of the sleeve act as an o-ring.

good luck on your build.

Step decked is when they make the sleeves a bit higher than the rest of the top of the block. It helps the combustion chamber stay sealed under high cylinder pressures (like boost). O-ringed looks like a pain in the ***. The people I know who have made 400-600 WHP (myself included) didn't need to do it, so I'd avoid it. Any of the shops 1700 mentioned should do a good job on it. I had my last block sleeved by RLZ in NC, and they did a great job on it with Darton sleeves. Just make sure you get somebody to do it who has done it a lot with good results. Around $1000 is about the going rate for sleeving, unless you get fancy with it like the ERL Superdeck 2, but at that point I'd just buy a Dart block.

So then step deck would be a plus instead of using the o-ring. Also, are HD sleeves good? I'm not sure what brand they are exactly, but I heard something about them being the designer of Golden eagle?

I've used step-decked and non-step-decked sleeves, ran 20+ PSI on both and it worked fine because it was assembled properly. For a street motor I'd go with open deck, step-decked sleeves with no o-rings. I think HD is a Golden Eagle brand name for their sleeves, but not sure about that, never had GE do any work for me. The GE guy posts on H-T all the time, so I'm sure you could ask him and get a quick response. RLZ did an awesome job for me on sleeving and assembly, and I know a guy who's had a couple of Benson sleeved blocks and he's said they were perfect. Personally I'd have whoever is sleeving it do the bottom end assembly as well, but I just don't have the tools and expertise to get all the clearances exactly right.

just for confirmation, open deck is the same thing as step deck correct? I keep on asking these questions because the search is still down and i can't look it up myself.

No, they are two separate things.
