My brakes half stopped working this afternoon
So I was driving down the road, stopped at a light, everything is fine. Next time I got to stop I put the pedal down the normal amount and nothing happened, so I was like, ****, and I just slammed it all the way down and it creeped to a stop. So it'll stop, but the stopping power is at like 35% of normal and I have to put the pedal to the floor to do it and it still takes forever. I noticed when doing the tie rod end a few nights ago that a thin plate between the brake pad and caliper was slipping out, but my brakes were locked and it was dark so I was like, I'll just put the tire on again and do it sunday (tomorrow). Could this little plate have slipped out and caused the passenger's front disc to stop working? I checked the master cylinder and brake booster and it's not like they blew up or fluid was low like it was leaking, and I couldn't see any fluid on the ground from a leak. Any ideas? Thanks a lot.
Most likely an internal master cylinder leak. Check all your brake lines especially the flex lines which are rubber and prone to cracking. The brake shims are not going to cause the pedal to go to the floor, aftermarket pads w/ shims usually move around alot. Hope this helps, look it over thoroughly.
check by your break pedals (for fluid leaks) and inspect the front brake lines, it sounds like your front brakes went out (and only the back are workin) inspect the lines real good they could of collapsed internally....(im doing brakes at school)
Yeah, the drums are still making noise if I stomp on them and whatnot. I'll check it out tomorrow. Thanks. I hope all I have to do it replace a line or something, I'm so in debt already. And the tape deck I just bought doesn't work, :-(
