Default Tranny Leaking still....

I posted awhile ago about my transmission leaking right where the axels go in. I replaced the seals there and it is still leaking. My question now is, if i put heavy motor oil in instead of the very thin gm synchro mesh (which is wonderful just to thin for my old old tranny). I was thinking maybe 20w 30. Would this help slow or stop the leak, and would it be safe. Or would it be to thick and break it down internally? Thanks again for the help. P.S. anyone with an SI tranny for $75 around madison hit me up so i can just get one that doesnt leak.

DO NOT DO THE HEAVY MOTOR OIL!

it'll make shifting impossible...What you need to do...is take the axels out and SHOVE them into the differential. I bet you the axels aren't in all the way....
Or the seals are not sitting right..I sugest try and resetting the seals....then try pushing the axels in to get the CV joints tighter to the seal....and check the angle of the axels down to the hub. Maybe your slope is too steep and is not letting the axel sit up against the seal. That's all i can think of....that or your tranny is cracked around the differntial...but that's a fucken long shot.

ok so I will definetly not do that. AXELS are in ALL THE WAY. I have checked re checked checked again and still checked again. There is absolutley positvley impossible for the axels to go in any farther. I will try to reset the seals and post after i do that. I will post. Probally be a day or two until I can notice the leak. Thanks Burlyirishdude

Did you get genuine Honda seals?

I bought some replacement-off-brand-junk that leaked, had to get real Honda seals to make it right again.

It was fun having to replace the seals a second time..think I can take apart my front end blindfolded now!

ok ladies and gents one quick question about the installation of these seals... are they suppose to be pushed all the way in or all the way on the outside of the tranny? reason asking is theres about a 1/2inch difference

I'm fairly sure they sit almost flush with the case, not buried inside.

cheers

ok last night i took them out and re set them. Exactly flush with the tranny. The passenger side one looks to have stopped leaking but the driver side looks like it is still leaking and in 5 minutes i already had a droplet forming on the bottom of the tranny. should i just go get another seal for the driver side?

Dont know if i really want to use that type of stuff but right now i'm down to try anything. Does checker carry it?

If you've pryed on it or you think you may have damaged it, buy a new one and go through the process AGAIN...that sucks, doesn't it?

You could check the fit on the axle prior to installation. I would put grease on the part of the seal that touches the axle to help seal it properly. I think the grease is recommended in one of my manuals (haynes?).

It shouldn't leak when you have the seal in correctly, I'd be afraid of special 'leak fixing oils' unless I didn't care much about the tranny.

meh. I looked in my manuals, I cannot remember where I came up with that one. Maybe I read it somewhere on the 'net, but it has worked for me.

Let us know if that helps!

Look at it this way...next time your axle breaks, CV joint goes bad or you have to pull the transmission/engine, you are so well practiced with removing axles, it should take you no time at all.

Ok as of leaving my house there was one small droplet of tranny fluid on my garage floor! VERY GOOD!!!! Way better then the puddle i had before. I am hoping it was from the big mess the tranny leak left under my car. I am going to wash it before i park it over night so i can tell tommorow morning for sure if it is absolutley gone!!!!! THANKS SO MUCH!

OK tyro.............................................. .......................................... IT WORKED!!!!! dont take this the wrong way but i love you... lol. seriously it did work. the drip last night was just left over crap from the enourmous leak i had from the seals not sealing properly. EVERYTHING is great now no leaks.... running gm synchromesh tranny fluid which makes the shifting so much easier. thanks alot to everyone that helped me out here.
