which roadster should i get for 20k?
hey guys, i just sold my civic and my moto for some extra cash. im looking to get a roadster for my next car. i like the way s2k look and feel (driven one), but my question is, if i have about 20k to spend is the s2k worth it?
im saying this because i have choices of other roadster that i might be interested in. mainly an older mercedes slk320, bmw Z3, audi TT. they all fall in the same price range with the s2k, so im in this dilemma where i want a nicer car, but i also want to stick to my honda roots.
i dont know much about the s2k or roadsters in general(for comparison), i just like the convertible 2 seaters.
what should i consider buying?

I'll be the first and give the obvious answer: buy the S2K. I can't even believe you included the Z3. Those things are hideous. The TT aren't bad, but lack on performance. SLKs are for old women. If you plan on modding your car, def. get the S.
well, i figured that i could get some luxury when i get a sports car. i not too big on the z3 but if the price is right id get it.
the mr2 spyder is not for me, its wayy too small and doesnt feel sporty enough for me. i think it'll require lots of mods before its gonna be fun.
sticking to the honda roots will allow me to tamper with cars again. but id like to get a nice car to look good in. =D.
i just wanted some feed back from you roadster people, on what you guys would buy.

If you're going to get the Z3 series...you cant go with anything but the MRoadster...and you aint gonna find one easily for $20k.
The TT is junk...more trouble than you could ever imagine.
The benz in my opinion is just a cheesy luxo attempt at a roadster, it has a lackluster interior, and the 320 is going to be high mileage IF you find one in decent shape.
...Honestly, i dont prefer the S2000 over many cars (though my wife and i own one) but out of those, besides the MRoadster, its the best bet.

^^^ Its also anemically powered. And its a pontiac...forgive me for not including any GM product in this set of cars, as i simply wouldnt own one...ever.
And id like to take something i said early and update it...you WONT find a SLK320 in that price range that is in decent shape...you MIGHT find an SLK230 in that range, but thats about it...just FYI.

GM sucks, there's no getting around it. Poor engineering, poor materials, poor assembly. The Corvette is the only respectable GM product.

Me either. Never.

I don't think GM is really that bad. I'd never buy any of their cars (maybe except the Z06), but their trucks, I love. My father has always bought GMC trucks, and has never had any major problems. His company trucks average 300k miles before it gets traded in or sold. His personal truck sees 100k with no problems before it's traded in for a new one. I don't think their Duramax Turbo-Diesel gets too high of a ranking, though.
Anyway, back to the topic. There is no other roadster you could get for $20k that would compare to the S2k. Yes, I'm being conceited, and rightfully so.

There really isnt much to say negatively about GM's trucks...they are built to be used and abused. But with all the import companies seeing this, in the coming years you'll really see just how well Honda, Nissan and Toyota can compete with the full size truck market...GM has been able to top that because honestly, they focus all their attention on it...since the Z06 (whcih i agree is an incredible car) accounts for less than 2% of their sales.
The Saturn Sky and the Pontiac Solstice are a way for GM to grab a little bit of the market niche looking for a roadster...it has that new little ecotec motor in it which from what ive read isnt too bad...but its power output is just pathetic...you think the S2000 is torqueless...wait until you get a car with both horsepower AND torque under 200...imagine a civic with a rag top...
And sure theres a supercharged version of the ecotec that they could take out of the Cobalt SS...but in that, they'd also have to jack the price up quite a bit, and then the little Sky and Solstice would have to compete directly with the new S2000, Z4, 350Z Roadster and MazdaSpeed Miata...just to name a few...and when it comes down to it...i see GM falling a little short in that area.
