230psi on all 4 cylanders!!!????
Performed a compression test today, all 4 cylanders are at 230 psi? What would cause this. The reason why I checked is because there was pinging coming from the head when I would stomp the throttle. Checked valve clearance, timming, and performed a leak down test. Every thing else was good???
im gonna take a stab at it and say that your engine is probably still healthy if all four cylinders were at 230 psi, what gear where you in when you mashed and heard pinging?
if it was hot and in fifth gear, you were probably detonating

if its pinging under load u got detonation. U will have to retard the ignition timing in the areas of the detonation with crome, or hondata, etc. Dont keep driving it like that if u want ur motor 2 live a nice life.

Not necessarily. Different compression testers give different results. I had a JDM GSR motor (10.6 : 1) show 240-240-240-240. Whats important is just that they're uniform across.

My set up:
B18a1 Block
LS rods and crank
Type R pistons
Type R oil pump
Type R water pump
B16 head
Type R cams
Stock LS injectors
P28 ECU OBD1
Type R LSD on B16 trans
Stage 2 Clutchnet clutch
detnation occurs at load only, so when I'm at any gear and RPMs are low it pings for a few seconds until the RPMs are higher.

thanks for all your help guys. I thought my motor was a goner. I guess I will be gettin it tuned some where. Any one know a good reliable tuner around the orange Co. area?
church autootive testing info on the dyno
VAFC tuning is as expensve and not nearly as effectve as hondata tuning. Mine was a simple b16 wit boltons no cams, stock comp ect. It's not as cheap as free uberdata ect but with these gains and going from air fuel ratios that had been as off as 11.5:1 are now a rock solid 14.05:1 which also saves a grip of fuel despite the extra power.
runs are with and without ecu tuning (I don't have cam sprockets or a fuel pressure regulator) also vtak cell phone was moved down from 57 to 5200 rpm

So, 230psi across the board is not bad with type r cams?

in my opinion, you should not get a vafc, the money could be used on more worthwhile things,...... crome, ubderdata... hondata
also you cant really calculate compression just by looking at the psi in the cylinders

My friend has the same set-up. 230 all across is good just get a good tune with uberdata. He had the same problem before the tune, all we did was richen the fuel at the fpr and p[lay with the timing and the pinging went away

So, you turned up the fuel pressure and how did you "play" with the timming?
