Off to the machine shop, I need some suggestions...
Ok, so my old motor is done with, and now I'm building one from scratch. I took an F22 crank out of one of my old f22 blocks I had laying around, and decided to put that in an H22 block, with F22 rods and H22 pistons. I want to use my H22 pistons so I can have a higher CR. I went to the shop already to get some price quotes, and this is what he told me; To balance the entire moving mass assy, he will charge $175...is this ok? I've never had it done and was curious to what you guys are paying. I want to either deck the block or mill the head....what one would be better/safer? Also how much should I deck/mill? I'll be using the OEM Headgasket. Also, I wanted to try to put this motor together myself, is this hard to do? What are some tips/tricks?
Yeah, pretty much, F22 crank and rods are identical to the H23's, but I'm putting that in a H22 block...oh yeah....which is also almost identical...lol...but how much could I deck or mill the block and still be safe?
well lets c, i had my h22 block bored(already sleeved) crower rods resized, crank turned .10, new pistons sized and hung on rods, block cooked, line bored, crank rebalanced, head planed, all for 225$ but i got the hook up at the machine shop so that doesnt help....

You may already have clearance issues with that setup, so I wouldn't deck the block. You can mill the head, but your CR will already be high. You basically have a H23/VTEC (I'm guessing H22 head?) and there are a lot of threads covering this. There are also a lot of threads covering H23 (same crank and rods as F22) with H22 pistons. Good luck and let us know how it goes...

Thats exactly what I was going to suggest. In addition, $175 is very reasonable, I had mine done by precision machine and balancing(only place local) for $275.

Cool, thanks a lot guys for your input. But yeah, I think he said that the clutch and flywheel and stuff was included in the balancing. I'm putting on a brand new stage 3 clutch, and I will probably resurface my stock flywheel. Any ideas on what my CR might be? And whp with I/H/E? How much should I mill the head, if i decide to do that? Oh yeah, are H22 and H23 balancer shafts the same, or different?
