Ok, as "some" of you may know, I'm still in the process of getting parts for my rebuild together. The only thing thats holding me back so far is this port & polished GSR head with crower valve traine and oversized valves (from what I was told from the seller...) that I picked up. Here are some pics of the head...
Intake Side

Exhaust Side

Valve Springs & Retainers

Bottom of the head...Oversized Valves

Stamp on the front of the head... JVR?

Ok, I have a few questions now...
1. I'm assuming the port & polish work was done by some one known as "JVR"...anyone ever see this stamp or know where i can trace it back to?
2. Do the springs and retainers look like crower...? Sorry the picture isnt all that great to tell...
3. I want to use Std valves since I'm going NA, from the pic, can any of you tell if its possible to fit the std valves back in?
4. Anything else I should look for, or ask the machine shop to check out before I give it to them to resurface, hot tank, new valve seals, and new valves?
Any feedback, help, and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

OOPS...fixed....yeah, the bottom looks nasty, thats why I'm gonna take it to a machine shop to get it semi bling bling!
Also, good to know that those retainers arent crower..now i gotta do more searching of what i have!

I'm far from an expert on PnP; I actually know very little, but if I were you, I'd probably be checking the dimensions on the ports or finding out how good of a job whoever did it (JVR?) did. It seems like one of those things that could really ruin performance if not done right and that'd suck for you to throw that head on and get crappy results.

Are those retainers to small?? Looks like the retainer is not covering the whole spring and doesn't seem(by looks) its seating that well in there.

with JVR i would also have to think it would be javier gutierrez because i was going to buy a 95 gsr from a guy who bought a whole new head from JG. That car sounded and felt awesome.

yeah I emailed jg and the guys name was javier who replied and I was gonna mention that but I see 4 people allready beat me, I would email Jg your Pics
it could be his trademark for HIS actual head, not some head his lackys have done for his shop.
just email javier at JG some pics and he can tell if its his head, done deal.

thanks for the feedback and help everyone...i'll attempt to contact javier from jg and see if I can trace it back to the source. I'll keep everyone posted!
Those do look like the original crower retainers which were smaller diameter but I wont say for certain..
Either way take them off, I have seen the springs slip through the hat many times on those style retainer before.

pressure test the bottom side of the chamber see how much you are leaking. Get some new retainers, resurface, and slap that sucker on see what kind a power you make. I picked up a portflow head from some guy. Seemed kinda sketchy but the ports look coo and it made 216hp and 139tq

I agree. Also most JG heads I have seen have the JG logo stamped on them.
