Default Serious Issue with 90 prelude SI

If you are on preludepower you have probably seen me post this problem before. Well it's been over a year and i'm still having it, and i've just spent $300 to diagnose(they have no idea) and i'm not real happy

Anyway here is my problem.
My car will die every 5 mins and throw a cel, and you cannot restart the engine again until you reset ignition switch, it gives a code 8(TDC, tech put a scope on it and says it's perfectly fine) and i've replaced distributor to no avail.

It mostly does it in slow city driving, if you are on the freeway at high speeds it will stop doing it and run as long as you are going fast, once you get into congested slow moving areas it will start acting up again.

I've timed it and it's exacty at 5 min mark, or it will skip intervals and be at either 10 min 15 min, and so on.

Which leads me to think it's electronic in nature.

This is about my last hope here, if anyone knows anything that would cause this, or has had a car that does this and has had it fixed, please help!

90 prelude SI with JDM b20a swap

Thanks in advance

Do a continuity test from the CYP sensor wire to the ECU...The insulation on the wire may have gotten damaged and may have an intermittent open...

I am not too familiar with 3rd gen cars but does it have a CKP sensor as well? When the car dies, does the ignition completely cease to function? Next time it does it check it with a spark tester...

once it dies you cannot start it again without completely turning ignition off and then back on.. You can try and start it, it will crank and sound like it wants to start, but it never will.

The 5 min thing just boggles me.

Would a bad ECU cause this too with no other signs?

It sounds like the main relay which happens a lot -- does it only happen when it is like exremely hot outside then when the air gets cooler it will start right up: under the dash by your leg there is a fuse box get a helms or online manual and pull the main relay and look at it make sure the wires are making connection or there are no breaks -- I have heard of this happening on older accords ... so it could also effect older preludes as well...

Nah man, it's not that. Main relay only cuases you to not be able to start up when the vehicle is off to begin with (in 3rd Gen Ludes that is). It is a common problem, however not the same symptoms.

To the OP, def check whatever that one guy said, the sensor wiring. And also use the FSM to see if it's your ECU, Cuase every five mins...maybe thats the interval in which the sensor checks...whatever.
