What Tranny should i go with?
Ok I have a 96 GS-R. Its my daily driver, but i also like to have some fun at the track with it. Ive gotten different opinions about what tranny to go with.
b16 (civic si), GS-R or ITR. I personally want the ITR tranny i think, but idk what is best for my application. I have to drive about 20 mins to school every day on the highway. Im also rebuilding my motor over the winter. Im sure that all 3 trannys can handle the power my motor will be making, but I just want to be sure.
EDIT: I forgot to add that i have to buy a new tranny either way. My GSR tranny Syncros went on me yesterday.

i would stick with the tranny you got now. with gas prices so high, its rough with a b16 or itr tranny. but id just like to keep my wallet happy.
so its up to you
so its up to you
Thanks. Id definatly like to go with a Type R Tranny, but a rebuild is possible. I got an estimate for $1037 for a rebuild. so i have a choice of rebuild mine or look 4 a Type R one. Im gonna go to another transmition place tomorrow or something, to get another estimate. Id really like to get an ITR one tho.
another gsr tranny will be the best balance. some performance, still be able to get better gas mileage on the highway. if gas prices are not as big a concern to you, then you should go with a b16/itr tranny. the short gears will feel great on the track.
as always, in the end, you have to decide for yourself.

I found this on a local forum
"i am selling a 98 gsr tranny w/ type r lsd. gears shift perfectly(no grinds) tranny has 59,000 mi. lsd installed a year ago with what was quoted from seller to have 15-30,000 mi. this tranny will be perfect for anyone with a boosted b series or someone who wants a fresher tranny w/ lsd. asking price $700.00."
I think this sounds good to me!

If you don't mind the high revs at highway speeds and a couple miles less to a gallon...then got with a b16 w/ LSD or a ITR, both are the same gearing except for the final. But from what your needs sound like...i'd get another GSR and slap an LSD on there.
I think ill stick w/ either USDM or JDM no need for a MDM (Mexican Domestic Market) Tranny.
Im actually gonna buy that gsr tranny w/ the LSD for $700. The kid is local, so its gonna save me alot of shipping costs.
For anyone who messaged me... Sorry, but i cant reply to them since im still a "trial" member.

and since we all know that the final drive affects the gearing, they arent geared the same

Well, if it wasn't obvious, i was just trying to imply that all you had to do was swap out the final and it would be a similar tranny.
