Default Very strange high idle issue - please help!

I have a 2000 GSR motor in a 2000 civic DX hatch. I finally finished all the wiring, and the only remaining CEL is the primary o2 sensor (which I have not wired in yet).

For some reason the car idles at 2,000 RPM when warmed up. The TPS has been fixed and is no longer throwing a code, and the throttle cable seems to be aligned and tensioned properly.

However, here is something even more strange: when I am rolling to a stop (in neutral) the RPM's go up to 3,000 and stay there until I either put the car in gear as I roll to a stop, or come to a stop and hit the gas (in neutral) which brings it back to the already high 2,000 RPM.

Any ideas are grealy appreciated.

HELP PLEASE!!!

your idle air control valve has junk in it, you need to either replace it or thoroughly clean it out

So I checked the IACV last night, and what I noticed is that it was sucking in air through the hole in the throttle body (the car would die if I plugged the hole), and it sucked in air at the same rate while it was idling as well as when the car was warmed up. So, you think that even though it's sucking in air and the car idles high (might be caused by sucking in too much air) that the IACV is bad?

what the IACV does is regulates how much air flows through that hole. If the IACV had junk keeping it opened even slightly it can seriously effect your idle.

doesn't the IACV also have a line connected to it that flows coolant? anyone know how that works into the whole thing?

this has nothing to do with idle speed

you need to check for vacuum leaks on all your vacuum lines. That would be the first place I would start.

Ok everyone, the problem is gone along with the rest of my electrical problems. I replaced the engine wire harness, and clearly that eliminated whatever electrical problem I was having. The car idles perfectly as it should, no longer revs to 3k when I am decelerating/coasting, and runs GREAT.

So, if you are having a similar issue and have ruled out mechanical component issues, wiring is the next place to look. It's a huge PITA but that's what it took to get mine running right.

Thanks for everyone's replies!
