Trying to help someone with a z6 head on a z1 block
Someone emailed me today asking for help. Here is his email:

The person i bought the car off of originally supposedly blew the motor (so bye bye d15b7). So instead of putting a new d15 in there he through a vx motor in there. Only problem is when he did this, he didnt do any of the wiring or computer changing in order to get the vtec-e to work. So now since i have the vx motor that doesnt function properly, im basically running with 3 valves at all times and i cant make any power over 3500+ rpms. My question is: how bad would it actually be if i put a z6 head on this motor??? i know the compression will be low, but wouldn't i HAVE TO be making more power than i am now...? I already have the head, and i even have a skunk 2 ecu. So between the ecu and the fact that ill have 4 valves... would this be worth it or should i suffer with what i have now? sorry for the long story... thanks in advance... </TD></TR></TABLE>
So basically, my questions are:
What would hte compression ratio be for a z6 head on a z1 block? I have used two calculators, and one said 9.3:1, and the other said 7.8:1.
Has anyone done this before?
From the sounds of it, the wiring is wrong. Is the b7 non-vtec? if so, I'm assuming the z6 head will also not work, even with a skunk 2 ECU as the engine harness is not wired for Vtec. Am I correct in assuming that no matter what he is going to have to wire the VTEC himself unless he wants to swap out for a VX engine harness?
Any other light and knowledge would be great.
