NEED ADVICE ON CHOOSING MY ECU SETUP! HELP!
I have a dilemma and need ur guys help on making my decision. Right now i have a b16a (first gen) running on a chipped P30 ecu. I have no idea what program, (vtec comes on at 4000rpm, revs past 9000rpm) and i was thinking about running the Apex VAFC 2 on it and just tuning it off of that...but then i was thinking about getting a stock p30 ecu and getting the hondata s200 program on it and tuning off of that setup. Any suggestions? Does the Apex Vtec controller work well or is hondata walk all over it? Planning to do valve train upgrades...so i need the one that will give me the biggest power gain. I also heard that the Apex controller has limits on what it can control, while hondata is fully tunable and has more options....need some feedback please! thanks
This site is an excellent resource for low-cost, high function engine management. Do some reasearch about the program called CROME.

The Apex V-AFC is pretty useless for the money. If your planning to tune yourself check out the new Hondata S300 or if your on a budget then like what the other guy said http://www.pgmfi.org
I checked out the hondata s300 but first u need a usdm P30
and i heard u dont really need it unless u are going turbo or gonna tune urself.....thanks for the feedback

Well i have a chipped ecu, but its not programmable.....
it was burned on but i dont know what setup, thats y i wanted to get a stock p30 so i wouldnt have to worry about the other program being on there.
The only way i can tune off of it is if i use the VAFC but i have been hearing nothing but bad things about the VAFC.....so just trying to make a good decision.

i would try a different approach, first try to find a reputable tuner near your area, ask what he can work w/ best so you'll know that he'll try to get all the power out of your setup, but others will tell you go chrome or uberdata for the extra money saved. hondata really costs a grip for the full function, unless your getting the base system.
i did it this way, I wanted my motor to be tuned at churches and I heard they work well on hondata so i went out and bought a hondata.

Thanks yo! yeah i want to get the s200 system with every option except boost.....so its gonna cost a decent amount but i would rather get what i pay for.... the place i go for tuning will tune either one so...i dunno. I'm beginning to lean towards the hondata.....
go with hondata s200

i have used both the apexi vafc 2 and hondata. i didnt like the tuning abilities of the vafc 2. i got about 10 hp out of it on a dyno on an stock h22. after i put on some parts i was at the max of the apexi. so i now how have a p72 ecu with hondata. i love it so much better. you have drag launch controlls, expanded fuel and ignition tables (places the vafc2 wouldnt even think of going). its so much better, you can tune for parts like cams, intake mani, etc..you cant do that with the vafc2
my vote is the hondata s200

anyone who spends the money for S200 at this point is a fool. Straight up. Crome does everything S300 does, with no end-user licensing fees. Besides, for the money you'd spend on the hondata gear, I could tune your car fully AND get a keg of beer to celebrate when done. That's not cheap - that's cost effective. Beer
