Default honda civic ex -amplifier

hi guys..

I have a 2001 civic and would like to change the rear speakers and power them with a small amp..

I have the on dash cd player... I do not remember the model name.. the question is does it have an output for Amp? or I should connect the amp to the speaker cables..

thanx in advance for any inputs..

If you mean "indash" aftermarket HU, not stock, then yes more then likely it has at least one set of "preamp outputs" if it does not just make sure the amp you get has "high level" inputs, [speaker inputs] or you will have to get a "LOC", [level output converter] but one way or the other you can add an amp, even to a stock HU, [head unit, CD player] 94

hi there..

thx for the post.. I have the original in dash cd deck that came with the car.. so it looks like it does not matter whether it has amp output or not...

I went online to crutchfield.com and chose my ride there... it only listed me few 6x9 speakers that fit my car... which are like 2way speakers and I am thinking of getting JBL or sony xplods....

what do you guys think? I checked out the rear speakers...they are 6x9.. why any 6x9 do not fit?

thx again.

You need a pre-amp output convertor they sell at radio shack, if you have a stock hu, or you can find out what wire is your remote turn on and just wire it that way, and then just run speaker wire directly from what wires turn on your rear deck.

You would be safer trying to just buy an aftermarket hu and installing one because your stock hu will not be able to fully give you the decent sound you want with aftermarket speakers and a stock hu.

However I do have to agree with MilanoRed-EJ8....kind of, You would be BETTER off replacing the HU, the HU is the most important part of the audio system, and if all you wanted to do was add an amp and sub to your system I would say go ahead, as it helps solve one of the problems of a stock HU, [very little power, watts] and it is hard to get good clean sound, much less bass or SPL without "watts", IMO adding an amp and better speakers just makes shitty sound louder, and in most cases shittier.
If you replace the HU, first you will be very surprised at how good the stock speakers sound once they get some power, [watts] behind them, the other advantage of doing the HU first is as you upgrade your system you already have the most important part. 94
