for the DIY control arm maker.
thinking about designing some upper control arms for beleaguered prelude owners (aka, me) for a one off fabbing at great expense to gain camber adjustment w/o having to destroy the upper wheel wells.
having taken Strength of Materials/Statics/Dynamics/Structural Design, i think i could get alot of the basic stuff down in terms of FBD's, Shear/Moment Diagrams, Stress/Strain calcs, etc--Granted, i'm a CE student so tool design and other more ME related things are not and will not be a part of my curriculum (thank god)...
but since structures are never moving except when things are about to get really ugly, and there's more going on in a front suspension than Sigma F = 0, i'm curious as to what other lovely equations and principles i should keep in mind as i design this thing.
not asking people to do my math for me, but i suppose i'm trying not to miss something very important.

Whats the problem with these current UCA's you're talking about? I assume its the adjusting bolts hitting the top of the fender well and leaving the marks?

yeah, using SPC-style replacement ball joints pressed into the OEM UCA's for the bb6 doesn't leave much in the way of clearance for the UCA when the suspension compresses. Repeated duty cycles with such abuse may or may not be the best thing for the part or the car, and besides, it's a really ugly sound.
the idea is getting something similar to the Skunk2 UCA for DC2's, or even this pretty Spoon unit for the TSX:

(thanks vince)
I'm going to see if there's any way to get a Sk2 unit to fit before going ahead and doing all this math and stuff, but i'm assumign that it's not going to work.

somthing that might not require alot of fabing to get it to work would be somthing like these
