Tire fitment ?

I'm horrible at tire sizing. I can swap engines, rebuild em, weld like a madman but when it comes to selecting tires sizes I blow ***. If someone could show me of a link where they break it down that'd be cool so I wouldn't have to come across some some noob that'd be cool beans. Anyways, the tires are staggered so I'm assuming it's not gonna cut the cheese but I can still hope can't I? lol with a 15x7 rim what size of tire should I be looking for? This is going a a rwd car with a 0 offset.
Tire sizes are
Front 185/55/15
Rear 205/50/15
Rim size is 15x7(F&R)

The forum sponsor has plenty of info on sizing and interpreting the sidewall markings ( http://www.tirerack.com/tires/...id=46 ).
Those two sizes have pretty much the same overall diameters (~23"). And the staggered width front to rear seems plausible on a RWD car, although I'm not sure what the hot-setup is for an older Z. But as far as retaining your existing gearing and maintaining speedo accuracy; you'd want tires with roughly the same O.D.
If you plan on changing the widths, use the spec. charts TireRack/whoever has and make sure the new tire(s) have an O.D. of ~23". If you find a tire and there is no O.D. listing, you can calculate it yourself:
width/aspect ratio/rim diameter
O.D. = [(width * aspect ratio% * 2) / 25.4] + rim diameter
For example the 185/55/15 is:
~23.07" = [(185 * .55 * 2) / 25.4] + 15

Thanks that cleared up quite abit! Now I can actual figure out by myself on what size tires I need.

Found a rim in a 14x6.5 size that I like better. I figured out what size I'd need though for the tirerack site. Thanks.

I founds some WOrks that are 14's instead of 15 with the same offset and width so I shouldn' have a problem. I also spoke to the shop that sell the Rewinds and said I shouldn't have any issues at all. But hmmm WOrks Equip 03's or fake watana..konig rewinds. You do the math.
