Default Skunk2 Cams on Type R Valvtrain

Hey guys so i am building a type r valvtrain on my b16 with Type R springs and retainers and wondered if i could use Ferrea valves with these and if so, would i be able to use Skunk2 Cams? Would i only be able to use CTR/ITR cams?....also i will be using Skunk2 Pro Series Cam Gears

You sound like you're trying to take short cuts. Just buy some Titanium springs/retainers if you wanna run bigger than CTR/ITR cams. Yea, they mite work...but why risk it? Theres no debating it.

Yeah, $300 for springs and retainers sounds a lot better than $3000 for a new motor. You can do what you want, but you probably already know what the smart thing to do is.

you would probably get away with using stage 1 cams on the itr valvetrain, but like everyone else said just upgrade to like omnipower, or supertech....

IMO, if you just want something for DD, then go with ctr/itr cams and valvetrain.....good luck

You think stage 1's are too big on ITR valvetrain? Just wondering because I ran this for a short time and dropped a valve. The motor had less than 5K miles on it and I thouht it was more than likely a valve to valve clearance issue with the .5mm OS Manley valves I was running.......

1) When you drop a valve you should check your rockers. Alot of times the rocker is eaten away and the valve motion is no longer smooth and the valve will bounce and eventually the head of the valve will fall off.

2) The stems on the Manlely valves are +0.001 bigger than OE. For instance the Manley intake valves are 0.2165 stem diameter. Stock Honda is 0.2155. So if you did not set the valve-to-guide clearance the valve could have siezed and then the piston hit the head of the valve.

Just some info for you guys.

The rockers were in good shape. The head was purchased from Skunkworks so who knows, probably never will but always bugs the crap out of me looking at this fubbard head on my workbench.

i heard the max you can run on the itr valve train was skunk 2 stage 1 cams and I'm not talking about the pro series stage 1. anything above skunk 2 stage 1 like the stage 2's the company says valvetrain upgrade in mandatory.

Skimping on your valvetrain is never a good idea.

so after weeks on searching i finally got a pair of barely used CTR cams and i also have ITR valve springs and retainers. would i be able to use OMNI or FERREA valves with this setup or do i have to go with Type R valves as well?

Stock valves will serve you just fine.

since you have already bought your type r valvetrain and ctr cams, if you ever decide to upgrade to a more aggressive cam than you should research the itr/portflow combo which has been proven to handle some of the more aggressive cams on the market. just to save you a bit of cash down the road.

i would go with the itr valves just to keep everything OEM. but thats just my 2 cents. but if you want to bump your compression up a little bit, go with the omni flatface valves..... good luck with your build bro

to tell you the truth DAantagonisti have been looking for these for about 2-3 weeks and finally got a paid under 2000 for a kinda reasonable price. i could have gotten ITR for half the price of my CTRs but its better to spend the extra cash and get the best B series cams. i am still looking for the valves and gears and i also need the seals as well to end my project...

OEM kicks a$$!!!!

you do know the 00 ITR cams are EXACTLY the same as the CTR? just wanted to let you know. i beleive 96-98 ITR cams have a smaller duration/lift(i can't remember) compared to the 00 ITR/CTR keep us updated bro on your progress
