Hi all, did a search on this topic, but still not sure of the correct answer.
Brake pedal goes to floor, barely any brakes when driving, if I pump brakes, car will stop but takes a few tries, and I have to press the pedal slowly.
The brake fluid is a tiny bit low, could probably use about 2 ounces tops. The only leak I see if coming from the valve or something under the hood, on the firewall, middle of the car, looks like the prop valve, but Im not positive. It is a little messy there, and a slight leak from that valve that looks like it releases pressure or something. Car will build up pressure and hold it when off, but when started it goes away.
About 2 months ago, the clutch was acting up staying at the floor, until pumped a zillion times, but that just fixed itself somehow. Possibly related?
Searches yield master cylinder or brake booster, but I wonder if the prop valve might need to be replaced, anf then the system bled. Any ideas? Thanks.

Pressure bleed it... start at the brake furthest from master cylinder (rear passenger side) then other rear brake. After those two do the front same way. should help tremendously, and about the clutch... that probably needed to be bled too... did you have it sitting a while before it did that? but the two are not connected in any way besides the fact that they both use dot 3 brake fluid

 

Thanks for the responses, I know I will have to bleed it, that was my last sentence in my post. The air got in somehow though, so bleeding now, wont do any good, car is driven everyday. Only has 208K miles on it.

So, should I still go for the master cylinder? I think the other valve may have leaked or is leaking, unless its a one way deal. Did the lack of pressure possibly cuase the valve leak?

figure out where it's leaking first. prop. valve is a little silver piece in the middle of your firewall with a couple lines going to it. master cylinder is towards the right from that and has a big black tub around it, that's where you put fluid in.

i'm hoping half of you ******** didn't finish reading because he did say there was a leak. now...

brake system (needs pressure to function) + leak = no brakes
leak + bleed on leaky system = still no brakes!
