car louder after trip
i went on a 2.5 hour trip to see my girlfriend this past weekend and the trip down there was fine. i got there and everything was cool we had lots of fun and my car ran as it always did blah blah blah. on the way back it was like 90+ degrees out and it was almost all freeway back. i was going about 75-80 mph w/ my engine reving at about 3.5k rpm. When i got back into the city i noticed that my car was louder. i can't really tell where the sound is comming from but 3 things that it may be would be the spider gears in the tranny, exhaust leak or blown head gasket. i did a quick look under my car and it didn't look like there was any holes. the exhaust pipe is still silvery (not rusted). its a stock exhaust pipe but i have a 4-2-1 header and cais. i just replaced the gaskets on my header (between the engine and header and between the cat and header) because of a leek. the noise used to be i couldn't hear my engine really until about 3k rpms when my intake starts its noise but i hear it now when its idleing. i don't know if this would matter but when i was at my girlfriends town they have non-reformulated gas and i filled my car with that and i added some fuel system cleaner. the engine seems to run a lot smoother and idles now at about 600. thank you for reading my lengthy explanation and please give me your ideas/comments.
well its not the head gasket. if it was that, you would have major problems, not exhaust noise being louder. check your exhaust gaskets etc. would be the only thing i can think of.
think i found the problem......theres a big rust spot on the back left bottom corner of my muffler. couple layers of metal have flaked away so that is probably what it is

sounds like to problem right there. just get the muffler replaced or go to the local salvage yard, and pick up a axle back. good luck.
