93 Accord A/C Repair
I've got a 1993 Accord EX that has an A/C leak. The leak is only present when the compressor is running (I can hear a hissing from the cabin), but since the system is now dry, I can't identify the leak definitively. Since it's an old R12 system, I know i want to have whatever reamins of the refrigerant professionally drained, and I don't really know if I'm going to do the repair myself or have my mechanic handle it.
What kind of price should I expect to get for the repair if done professionally vs. doing it myself? I'm looking at a new condenser (probably), R134 conversion, and a R134 fill.
Thanks.

you have to retro-fit all of your R-12 fittings to R-134a, look for oil leaks on your lines that will identify the leak for you. if you don't do it yourself it is going to be very expensive. hundreds even up to a grand you're lookin at. its not a cheap procedure.
to retrofit a r 12 system to r 134 a is not that expensive ,,,there are just 2 fittings u need to change over, on the suction and discahrge lines..you need to evac system completely, put proper compressor oil, add r 134 a in the system ,, cost around 100-200 dollars parts + labor .........
why do u feel u need a condensor??? if u got extra money , replacing the line o-rings to r134a type might be a good idea as well ,,i have seen r 12 o-rings will leak with time ...
