Bearing question
I have a 4 year old type-r tranny (N3E) with LSD in my EG hatch, Spoon clutch and flywheel were installed with with the swap. recently I have noticed a whining noise right as the clutch is about to be fully in gear. it only happens when there is resistance or no momentum, so it only happens in first gear when stopped or when going up a hill and shifting to second. Half the time I can't even hear it, but sometimes it's loud as hell. The transmission and clutch still work awsome. I have been reading about what the problem might be. I have been toldit's the throw out bearing, but that would require taking out my transmission and might as well throw in a new clutch and that doesn't really sound like what it is. Sounds like The input shaft bearing from what i have read, but i also read somewhere that if it is the input shaft bearing you can't replace it or it's a huge pain and not worth it. What do you guys think this sounds like, and if it is the ISB how much am i looking at to fix it if at all?
if i were doing it, i'd charge no more than $200 to change the input shaft bearing, new OEM part, materials, and labor included, shipping extra. i'd at least pull the tranny and inspect the release bearing, however, in order to eliminate that. if you're not sure, just replace the release bearing. it's like $35 at autozone i think.
