Default Attn: All B16 owners/suspension question

Do any of you have suspension problems with your CRX/Civic ever since you installed the B16A? My alignment is always messed up and even my rear cross member cracked, that right, my rear cross member cracked and I had to have it replaced a few weeks ago. Today I was driving to work and I heard a noise as if something came loose. My steering was out of control and everytime I hit the brakes, I heard this ugly grinding noise as if metal was grinding on metal. I left the car at home and jumped in my Integra madder than the mad hatter. Anyone have an idea what caused this, is my CRX possesed? Should I sell the damn thing?

Thanks for your help guys.

I am under the assumption that they're the 90-93 Integra axles. The whole set-up was in a 90 hatcback Civic before and I bought it off that guy so we just swapped everything over. When I drove his car, the suspension was fine. Pretty weird huh? I also have my CRX lowered on Skunk2 coilovers.

I had an interesting converstion with a guy from Raxles about our cars and the proper axles to use with the b16a. He said that the 90-93 teg axles are just a bit too long even if you remove the spacers and dust shields. My drivers side axle is too long and it is messing up the steering and suspension geometry. Go figure. So when I talked to the guy he told me that a lot of times this happens and people just let it go. I don't like how it feels and rides. So I decided to fork over the cash and get a set of hybrid axles that will fit properly. I will post a write up and evaluation on them when I get them either on Friday or Monday.

It all depends on what intermediate shaft you have. Read all about it at http://www.hasport.com. What mount kit are you using?
I have had absolutely NO problems with my B16A CRX. It's got the S1/J1 int. shaft, 90-93 integra axles, HASpork kit (the old alu. welded together mounts), and it too is lowered on skank2 coilovers - not dropped, but about 1.25" lower.

I am running the S1 trans with the 90-93 teg int. shaft and 90-93 teg axles. Hasport says that 95% of the time the 90-93 teg axles will work well. Maybe I just fall into that 5% but mine definitely were binding up indicating that they were too long.

A buddy of mine just told me that it also might have something to do with the half shafts. If we're using the auto half shaft it will affect the steering, he said that we need the stick shift half shaft. How can I tell if mine is the auto or stick shaft?

When I did the swap on my old car(B16a w/Y1 and its intermmediate shaft)I called George at HCP(whose mounts I used) and he told me to use a 86-89 Integra axle on the drivers side and 90-93 Integra axle on the passenger side-it worked perfectly, even though they were cheap Advance Auto Parts axles.

If you don't have a front mount, all the stress when you shift is going to the rear crossmember. I've seen people break them as well. On my car the rear mount was almost shredded before I put the front mount in. Other than that, my car drives pretty straight even with the traction bar. I reccomend getting motor mount inserts as well especially if you don't have a front mount attached.

You would know, because it would not fit. Read the axle info on hasport.com. THere is a picture showing the difference.

Use the inner joints on your 1990-1993 Integra axles on the outer joints/shaft assemblies from 1986-1989 Integra axles. These are the same as true SIR axles and are a perfect fit. Removal of the sealing rings is not necessary, either.

This is my setup as well. My drivers side B18a axle worked ok, but under HARD cornering when the suspension would compress it would bind slightly. I picked up a used 86-89 teg axle for $10 at the u-pull it yard just to test, and it worked great.

Well people, I talked to the previous owner and not surprisingly he had the same problem after the axles were installed. So now I'm on a mission to get new axles. Can anyone recommend a good place to get axles that are an exact fit? Thanks.
