94 ACCORD TRANSMISSION HELP!!
Hi,
I'm a 22yo female and recent college grad, and my 94 Honda Accord AT is giving me so many problems. First off it was flooded in my apartment complex and the water went up to the top of the hubcaps. I had to replace both the engine and tranny computers on the passenger floor side. I changed the tranny fluid quite frequently since water was in it, and a month and a half later my tranny started acted up. When it was in drive (D4) it would not accelerate but yet acted like it was in neutral or something. Pretty soon it wouldn't move at all in D4, D3 or anything, although I was giving it gas (it just kept reving high like it coudn't switch gears). I had to get it towed because I didn't trust driving it. Oh and a few days after the computers were changed I noticed that my car would hesitate to move when I gave it gas (it would rev up) after it was at a stoplight. But anyway I bought another tranny but it was a used 96 (the guy told me that it was the the same for a 94 and 95), but after that tranny was put in and I drove it home, the speedometer doesn't work, the D4 light blinks, the check engine light is on, and it doesn't go into 4th or 5th gear (it clicks when I speed up and the RPMs go up). I found this out after I left the shop on a Saturday so I couldn't go back to ask the mechanic. I'm scheduled to go back on Monday to get the piece that controls the speedometer. The mechanic actually warned me that the piece for the 96 Accord didn't match, so until I come back to get it put it the D4 light is going to flash and the speedometer won't work. Do I have a bad tranny or the wrong tranny? Or is this piece causing all of the problems? Please help.

since you swapped a 96 transmission into your 94 the vss are incompatable with each other, so you will need a obd1 vehicle speed sensor. like your mechanic said it will fix your speedometer and also should eliminate your check engine light...about not going into gear, i dont believe auto trans of those years even have a 5th gear...as for the drivablity problems im not to sure...
Oh, I said 5th gear because I was thinking of a 5 speed. So is there still something wrong with the transmission? When I first start it up it the RPMs are at 1500-2000 instead of the usual 1000. Is this because of the 96 tranny? Thank you for your replies.
if its only idling high when you first start it up it would not be the transmission, possibly a vaccum leak or something else...also it is supposed to idle a little higher when you first start the car...
are you sure the shop filled you transmission fluid to the proper levels?

I actually didnt check to see if the shop filled the tranny fluid to the proper levels. I know I gave them 3 quarts of fluid, and I only assummed that they put them in. I can check though.
I didn't know that the car is supposed to idle a little higher when I first start the car up. I guess what I'm more concerned about is the car not shifting into 4th gear...

6 quarts? wow. i got my tranny changed quite a bit and I've always put 3 quarts in. Is it 6 quarts because I just replaced it or is it 6 quarts all the time? I will put 3 more in there but I don't want to put too much since I really don't know what I'm doing. Does it matter if the car is on or off when I'm checking it?

Yes, 6 quarts because you had the transmission off and on again. 3 quarts when just changing the fluid. With an Auto, you always want to check fluid while it is running. There is a yellow dipstick on the transmission if it is below the lower line fill it until it reaches the upper line.
Okay, well the friend that went with me said that the mechanic said they we didn't bring enough quarts and that he had to put in 3 more. So I'm still going to check but she said that the mechanic did put in 6 quarts. So now I guess I'm back to square one...
the trans in a 96-97 car has different programming than the 94-95 models. If you drive the car when it was low in fluid, I would say that you are going to need a new trans. I would check to make sure that all of the electrical connectors to the trans are plugged in and the trans selection switch is in proper working order (it is in the console where the gear selector is). Also the car idling high when you turn it on is normal when the car is cold. Once the engine has reached operating temp, it will idle at about 750-1000 on the tach when in gear.
