1994 honda civic hatchback CX
I heard that the engine in the CX and DX are the same, and that the only difference is that the CX's air flow system is more limited (or some such) and that I could swap it out with one from a DX or VX and it would actually get about the same horsepower... is this true?
If so how much would it cost for parts... and is it possible for someone who is new at working on cars to do it himself? It looked kinda easy being as it was on top of just about everything...

hey hey. i feel ur pain. i drive a cx too lol. i thought the best decesion to get power for the least money would be to swap in a d16z6 or ANY OTHER MOTOR (dx,zc, etc) for about $700. and if you dont have a lot of experience with cars a shop can do it and charge about $500 labor.
where the hell do you all pick motors up for 700? the one guy i was tlaking to at a shop said he could get me a b20 installed, for like 4700. then again that was with everything, new drivetrain, axels, trans axels, the works, and i think a new radiotor and what not. that sound about right?

ur getting raped
ur getting raped
let me know if you pay that much for that so i can slap you. you can get a type r for cheaper than that. if you look good you can get a working b20 from a junk yard out of them crv's. not many people know about this but the older prelude 2.0 si's come with b20 aswell
lol. have u tried ebay.com? look into the FAQ. theres so many sites offering motors around that price. actually 700 for a d16z6 is kinda of expensive without a tranny. haha poor guy.
i was in the same predicament that you're in a couple months ago. After my fully built turbo b18c1 got stolen from my 94 hatch, i had to find a swap to put in, and low and behold, the first thing that i could find was a d15b8 swap (92-95 cx swap) What i ended up doing was just picking up a d-series 16valve head for 20 bucks, paid 27 for a new head gasket, and 50 for a p06 ecu. I switched the heads out in 2 hours and gained 30 hp for under 100 bucks. I am still using that head now and it changed my car from being a SLOW AS **** CAR, to a decent car. I have been driving my car for months now with no o2 sensor plugged in, the p06 will look for a 4 wire o2 sensor, and the cx wiring harness is for a 1 wire o2 sensor. If i were you, i'd just do what i did, it made an amazing different for very little price
how are the older preludes b20 and the crv b20 different? the prelude b20 will fit in any eg. i have friends that have done it before. all b series will work.
4700 for CRV?!? holy christ ure getin raped like no other.. i could get a gsr swapped in for less than that...and the b20b and b20z are crv blocks.. the b20a is the prelude block.. the prelude block is damn near wothless..makes shitty power. internals suck...power band isnt that great either...the crv is A LOT better than the prelude...take it from me..i drive a prelude with the b20a
