rt215 vs Toyo RA1....for 14x5.5 rims...
hi all - search seems alittle vauge SO I will ask direct -
Here in OZ tyres are few and far between - i am looking for a new set of rubber for my stock 14x5.5 LS teg rims ( 92 Si civic) . Instead of soem cheap and nasties I thought WHY NOT go get some high performace rubber on them for chucking around while cruisng etc
MY questions are relevant to the falken azenis RT215 and the Toyo/proxes RA1.
Both are a very similar price ( here in OZ) , both come in a decent size for my rims ( 185x55/60x14) and from what ive sofar researched , BOTH are decent on the street.
How long will each tyre last , under normal conditions and light frontal cambering ?( and a rotation at 10k)
Do either tyre have to heat up before really gripping or are "instant" ?
How is standing water in both ?
Anything else...? thanks !

If you're doing mainly street driving I would recommend the Azenis. I had over 10k street miles, a couple track days and some autox events on my Azenis (old style) when I sold them - and they still had some meat left.
The Azenis are great for daily driving and autox, they are good on track (can heat up and get greasy) and are fine in wet weather. I drove them in snow once or twice, that kinda sucked but you shouldn't have that problem! I plan on buying them again for my daily driver tires once the crap set of used Yoko's I have wears out.
I use the RA1's for my track tire - they also last a long time, they don't heat cycle out like some other r-compounds, and if you don't shave them they are good in wet. So yeah I'm very happy with them...but if you don't plan on hitting the track I'd just stick with the Azenis.
Hope that helps,
- Markus

Oh yeah - one other thing. If you do decide to get the RA1's check out the 205/55/14 size, that's what I use on my 14x6 Meotter rims.
Here azenis tires cost half as much as ra1's... fourteen inch azenis's seem to work really well even on my five inch wide wheels.
As long as they're charging you the same price might as well go with the toyos.

Although the RA1s are technically street legal, they're much less a street tire than the Azenis. Given that, go with the Azenis, since you sound more like a street guy than a track guy.
