HELP ! CANT EVEN REVERSE or GO UP HILLS !!!
i recently did a swap to a JDM d15b motor... not too sure on what tranny i have but i believe its a basic D series 5 speed tranny... i also have a lightened OEM flywheel with a BRAND NEW gripforce stage 1 clutch.... i'm still in the breaking in process... and my question to everyone is, lets say i'm going up a regular size city hill... i can enter the hill going like 40... and if i dont keep up the speed, my **** was STRUGGLE up the hill... i recently tried going up a hill today and it struggled so bad in 1st n 2nd gear... i was literally flooring it in 1st gear and the RPM was steady at 1,000 and the speed didnt go any higher than 5 mph... and on top of that, it was slowly DECREASING... i couldnt make it up the hill so i just busted a bitch... also, i popped it in reverse and tried making it up a driveway type of hill and u can just feel the ?clutch/flywheel? spinning... as it was spinning and i was tryna go up it wouldnt even make it up... u can smell the clutch so bad, smelt as if it was BURNT... it made some sort of weird noise as i was tryna back it up... trust me, i know how to drive... but i dont know whats goin on... would u think the lightened flywheel would have anything to do with it ??? as it was in reverse, it wouldnt GRAB for ****... anyone have any helpful tips as to what it would be ??
i dont know if this would do any help... but i have a 92 civic hatch... d15b motor... greddy turbo set up...
oh, i also forgot to mention... i CAN go backwards (reversE) but it has to be on a flat surface of no type of hill road... so pretty much, going up a hill or reversing up a SLIGHT hill, my car wont even make it up...

haha very interesting problem. my thoughts are your flywheel is too light? lol. actually with a super light flywheel you lose momentum with the engine. lets use a random example. 20lb wheel spinnin then u apply the clutch vs 10 lb wheel wen u apply the clutch. the laws of physics dictates u have less power "SAVED UP" with a light flywheel. therefore u must slip ur clutch more or else face a stall when going from a stop.
i would think that even though its a lightweight flywheel..wouldn't the motor make enough power to still go up a hill? very weird. i'm not too familiar with lightweight flywheels. i know you must rev faster but HMM. maybe it makes you lose torque? lol.
or wait. MAYBE UR MOTOR DOESNT EVEN MAKE THAT MUCH POWER? it should? lol. maybe u got a fked up motor. but i would go with the theory that ur clutch is slipping if you can smell it that bad. probably installed improperly or you forgot something. i think that makes the most sense. good luck man.

no

Sounds like somethings wrong with the motor. If the clutch was slipping the RPMs wouldnt stay at one place. Could also be that you have a DX tranny, those suck *** and you would need to down shift on every little change in the road to keep your momentum.
Do you know what mph your redline shift is?

i believe the redlines at 6800.. if its my motor, then why's the clutch smellin so bad... i dont think its the motor, its very strong for what it is... i do have power on flat surfaces but when its going up hills its a different story

he's saying reverse or go up hills, if his cat was clogged or his o2 sensor was messed... it would cause his driving everywere to be messed not just up hill

my friend who put it in for me is saying "its just the break in period ".. i'm thinking that it absolutley has nothing to do with the breaking period... hmm, what to do...
and i'm not too sure if he used brake cleaner to clean the surfaces of the clutch and flywheel... all i saw was him bolting it on and thats it... and no its not my cat, cuz i dont have one

even when I was breaking in the new clutch in my car, it would go up hills.
are you using the right ecu? I would think it had something to do with the clutch, flywheel or transmission.
for some reason it sounds like you're not getting power to the ground

yeah i'll have it checked out.... and another thing, if i dont release the clutch fast when i'm engaging in 1st gear, it vibrates hard as hell... and i know the clutch isnt that strong/stiff... it has something to do with the flywheel... if i release the clutch very slowly, u can see/feel the passenger side axle vibrating so hard that it makes a loud *** noise.... not a high pitch noise, as noise as if u were shaking a metal in a plastic cup very hard...
man, i just pulled up my driveway and fried the clutch bad... i revved it to 2 and released the clutch not too fast and it made that spinny noise again... and all this smoke came out
