Hi everyone.

This is my first post here. I tried searching the forum but could not find the answer to my question. Here goes:
I’m a noob who recently bought 99 Civic LX. It has bad wires and was not tuned up in a while. I want to buy the necessary parts for a tune up myself since the prices on the Honda dealership are ridiculously high. I know that I need to get spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap and fuel filter. Am I missing something?
Also since the car is used I don’t have the owner’s manual and don’t know what part numbers or brands/types of these parts I should be looking for. I’ll probably be buying parts online and if anyone could also recommend a trusted online store I’d really appreciate it.

P.S. Has anyone tried installing Bosh platinum4 spark plugs?

 

I was told that Bosh isn't that great on honda cars. NGK is better for the hondas..... so I have been told by the dealer.

 

buy oem spark plug wires.
ngk spark plugs.
mobil 1 oil.
oil filter.
air filter.
maybe want to change your distributor cap. (buy oem dizzy cap)

that should treat you right...

 

about the plugs.....i had Bosch plugs (not wires) and they got dirty enough where my car wouldnt start in about 5 months....Not fun when ur car doesnt start in the middle of february....went with NGK plugs and wires and i noticed a huge difference in cold weather starting....even during the summer it starts up faster. Go for NGK ignition stuff.

 

Can you guys recommend online store where I could buy it all. I'm searching through several stores right now and my head is about to explode.
Also what type of NGK plugs would you recommend?

Yeah...whatever you do dont buy bosch plugs...buy denso or ngk #2622's are the cheapest and work great...so far...no problems yet...When I worked for an auto parts store, I would always recommend NGK to honda owners....but some would still buy the bosch...then they would come in like a month later and be like those bosch plugs you sold me suck...haha...I just laughed and told them to go with NGK, like I said in the first place...NGK/DENSO Bosch

 

What about oil and air filter manufacturers? Distributor cap? So far I've found oil and air filters by Denso and some generic Japanese made distributor cap.

Get a K&N filter, there a little expensive, but i believe have a warranty of 2 million miles, seriously.

what's the point of a 2 million mile warranty?, it's a marketing gimick.. how many cars do you know that have 2 million miles, man 300,000km's is enough right there

 

Your right, i dont know of any cars w/ 2million miles, but what they mean by that, i think, is that the filter will outlast the car.

then what good is that lol?, and there not even that expenisve LMAO it's like an extended warranty on a 15 dollar product lol

 

Well, compared to like generic air filters, there expensive, i think you missed my point.

 

Yea I know K&N make great filters, no doubt I have one...

im tellin you, get an oem dizzy cap.
genuine honda parts need to stay in your car on occasion.
the dizzy and the wires id get from honda..

I recomend msd wires (if you cant tell by the pic) and yah ngk plus are cheap and easy to come by. as for air filter just go get an intake a k&n filter is gonna be like 50 bucks, you can most likely get a cold air intake from any performance shop for an easy 80 bucks. Then for oil get synthetic amzoil is best but mobil 1 or castrol syntac will be fine. and geta good filter because with synthetic you dont need to change for at least 4500-5000 miles. then run a can of seafoam. oh and as far as the distributor goes check for corosion on the cap and the rotor inside and if needed pick one up from any autoparts store exceot autozone their parts are for ****.

just dont go cheap on whatever wires and plugs you do buy...
youll notice a significant difference from cheap plugs and wires to moderately priced plugs and wires...

the expensive ones will treat you better and last longer.

 

dont for to get your timing adjusted and water pump

 

I'm going to change timing belt and water pump later. Right now my finances are somewhat limited..

I've found wires ( NGK ) that range from $50 to $120, what is the difference between them? there was no description....

Plugs... I will buy iridium NGK plugs: ZFR5FIX-11

 

heres the prices you need to be looking at
dont buy those stupid expensive partsbecause you dont need them

ngk plug wires:30-40
ngk spark plugs:3-4$ each
mobil 1 oil
oil filter:fram 5$
air filter:fram cheap
distributor cap from the auto parts store 15$

you dont need expensive stuff
