i have a 03 rsx-s and my friend has a 02 rsx-s . we raced and when i hit 5k in 3rd gear...he pulled up like sickness...both are stock excpet i have a AEM SRI ,felt like i was losin power after 5k ,but it doesnt feel like that all the time . does anyone know what the reason could be ? maybe i shifted too early from 2nd to 3rd or my aem intake needs to be cleaned ? i dont know im just thinkin of possibilities.... ? please give me your input . also what rpm should i launch at and when i should shift ? one more thing , i just bought the car and it was used . it came wit the AEM SRI ,i dont know if that helps wit yall opinion . thanx

not condoning street racing, but did you try 5k at 3rd again? if it happens more then juss that one time, something is wrong.. i onno the specfic problem, maybe the clutch is dying.

 

There is no "correct" launch rpm - way too many variables, ie tires, surface conditions, etc,.... just practice. Shift at redline, it's a Honda . Your air filter would have to be incredibly dirty to have a noticable effect on performance. Cleaning it can't hurt, but unless there are small forest animals stuck to it, I doubt that will solve your problem.

By the way, in a racing scenario you should never be at 5000 rpm in third. If you shifted from 2nd to 3rd at redline, you should be at about 5600 rpm after the shift. If you shifted early, no wonder you got owned.

 

i guess i aint sayin it the right way cuz yall not understanding me... shifting throu 1st and 2nd then to 3rd and when it gets it 5k in 3rd gear then sometimes but not all the time i feel like im not gaining power til vtec...but also everybody is saying its most like in my head . which is a real good possibilities....but i appreciate everyones input. thanx .
