Default Cruise control brain storming. Wondering if this will work or not.

So I plan on installing cruise control into my 89 LX. I took everything needed out of a 90 LX, so I'm good to go there. I'm wondering, however, if I mightbe able to make it easier.

The Civic cruise control actuator works by pulling a cable that is attached, through the firewall, to a bracket on the gas pedal. removing the pedal assembly is a PITA to say the least, and is best to be avoided if at all possible. Removing the one out of the donor car took me a good few days of confusion and screaming. At least now I know how to do it, eh?

Anyway, back to my question.

why not attach the cruise control actuator cable directly to the throttle cable? Get one of those "wire to wire" metal pieces and then position the actuator cable so that it pulls in the same direction as the throttle cable?

Doing this would make the transfer MUCH easier. I wouldn't have to change pedal assemblies or drill a hole in the firewall.

With my limited car knowledge it seems like this would work. However I'm not sure if the actuator is specifically tuned for a certain amount of tension and doing this would result in jerky driving by the cruise control.

Aftermarket cruise controls do it that way and some factory cruises have a second throttle cam specifically for that. So I would say go for it.

well i have an idea that might work... you might think its a bit ghetto but theoretically it will work.

pieces include a bait casting fishing reel (the kind with the button to release the line while casting), some heavy duty fishing line and some of those little round loops you screw into the wall. start by tying the line from the reel to the back of your accelerator, then route the line out of the way of your foot so that you dont step on it while driving. mount the fishing reel somewhere where you can operate it (havent figured this out yet.) using the loops secure the line out of the way.

now get your car up to the desired speed, then crank the reel to tighten the line. this should hold the pedal down. when you want to stop just press the button on the reel and it should release the line.

yes its quite ghetto but i think it should work.
