OT: David vs. Goliath! Turbo ITR slays Twin Turbo Impala SS!
Sorry for the OT. But this deserves to be read by competent ITR owners and not "kills" flamers.
On Saturday night (02/23/02) I witnessed a 1 mile drag race on the Bruckner expressway between two cars that were owned by guys that I know. The race was set for $2600 (total pot) for 1 measured mile on the Bruckner expressway. I watched the race unfold from the White Plains Road overpass along with 20 or 30 other gearheads that were eager to see the outcome of this much anticipated race.
The cars:
'95 Chevrolet Impala SS. 383 low compression stroker, Custom one-off Twin Turbo set up (twin garret TA49's) set at 11 psi each. Freddy Brown tranny, 3:42 rear gear with strange axles and BFG darg radials mounted on stock SS rims. Accel DFI Pro, Borla mufflers with 3inch pipe, etc. This car was built by Turbo People and Celebrity rotary Import racer Marcos Acosta. It has dynoed at 600+
whp!
'98 Integra Type R. Sleeved B18C5, JE 9 to 1 slugs, Eagle rods, stock ITR/GSR cams, Haltech EK6 engine management, Rev hard manifold, with custom Turbo setup, etc. Approx. 420WHP @ 18 psi. w/BFG drag radials mounted on stock ITR wheels.
The race unfolded like this: 1 mile drag race form a dead stop with a flagger dropping arms. The Impala SS basically walked the ITR down the whole 1/4 mile and maintained a lead to about 1500ft, at which point the ITR began creeping up on the big Chevy. By the 1/2 mile mark both cars were almost even at which point, it seems the Impala hit top speed and was fully geared out at redline (150+ mph) and the ITR began pulling away form the Chevy until it pullled a 7-8 car lead through the finish line. Truly an amazing race.
I was happy, jumping up and down when I realized how much potential my DC2-R really has. But then I wasn't so happy when I realized that I had just lost the $200 I bet in the Implala's favor. It was a bittersweet victory. But it sent the domestic camp home scratching their heads. I only wish I had this race on vid.
cliff notes: Turbo Impala races Turbo ITR and loses.

Actually someone did tape the race. But I just dont have a copy of the race. Nor the ability to post the vid online, even if I did have a copy.
WTF, you own the Type R and you bet against it????
You deserve loosing your $200...I'm sorry!
You should know what you have so far

sweet man . . . . whats up pimp , getting ready for etown . am i gonna see you out there more this year?
I don't know about this guys Type-R, but if the Impala "topped out at 150" and the ITR left him from there, there is something severely modified in the transmission of the Integra.
I would guess that even at 9000rpm in 5th gear, a Type-R is at, or still under 150mph.

Seeing that it's built for turbo, I highly doubt that they kept the stock short geared tranny. Most likely switched to an LS transmission, which would allow it to surpass the 150 mph mark
ot they puttet in the 4th and 5th of the JDM ITR tranny.....combinated with the 4.400 fd you have a top speed at about 175mph!

I knew there would be doubters. But the fact of the matter remains. The ITR walked all over the big Chevy. I dont know what FD the ITR is running, but I do know that it was travelling at 160+ when it crossed the finish line. Oh, and leo95se. The race began going the other way. So it's actually a 10 degree decline. White Plains road was the mile marker.
