how to make a custom short throw shifter
yesterday i made my own short throw shifter. here is what i i got the eye at the bottom of the shifter lever, and cut it off. after doing this i welded a bolt to it, and drilled and tapped the shifter lever. screw the bolt into the lever, and adjudted it to were you like it and put everything back together. any question just ask.
Easier way-
Buy a 'short shifter' on eBay. Install it. Then cut off as much of the top as you can and still get a shift **** on. I use ***** that have three Allen screws in them that tighten to the shifter 'rod'. You have a shifter with a throw of about 2". I have done this on both of my CRX's and am very happy with the install.

i wanna smack the kid who did that before i bought my car, because having my shifter break off in my hand during rush hour in the middle of a 5 lane highway with NO turnoffs was not fun... at all.
Just buy a whole one, or take it off the top.

mine wont brake because i used the stongest bolt the hardware store sold. they said that the bolt would hold up to 5000 lbs. at least i have enough talent to make my own parts and i did it for fun just to see if it would work.

I'm a little confused myself...... what makes a short throw shifter isnt the length of the rod above the ball... it's the combination of a thicker ball and slightly longer rod in between the torque rod / shift rod. If you shorten then top end of the shifter I doubt you'll be shortening the throw of your shifts....take a short throw shifter and compare it to a oem shifter (at the same time) you'll notice a thicker ball, slightly longer bottom end and of course the top end is redesigned to reposition the the shift ****....

LOL, ok, whatever you say. Let us know when it breaks due to whatever stress riser you managed to put into whatever you have contrived. Awaiting pics and a good chuckle.

the length under the ball makes all the difference. drdisco69 you were right
it broke yesterday in the rain at a gas station after helping someone jump start there car. but it isnt because the design is bad but because it was hitting my 2 3/4 inch exhaust, and bending. since then i have fixed it, and it works great. i cut the little eye of the bottom of the shifter lever. here is the eye i'm talking about http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...wItemI welded the unthreaded part of the bolt to the eye. after doing this i then drilled and tapped (threaded) the shifter lever. after that screw the bolt and eye into the lever. then put it back together. you may have to trim the exhaust shielding a little.
