Where do you park your race car?
I'm wondering where do all of you road racers park your race cars? I'm exploring my options now to see where I can park mine. I live in a condo with only a 2-car garage. There are some reserved parkings in the community, but there is a waiting list and to qualify, we have to have 3 drivers 3 cars. There are only me and my wife.
Then I searched for a 10'x20' self storage, that costs at least $200 per month. No freaking way. I'm now trying to think what other ways I can do. Any advice???

go to the track and ask other racers where they keep theirs. there's always some shop hidden out of the way that you'd never notice unless you know about it.
i found one in KC that rented space to me for $150/month.

I would just keep it in the garage (next to the wife's car) and park on the street wherever you can. With some good detective work, you'll soon recognize the patterns of the other street-parkers and learn how to get the spaces before they do. I did that for a lot of years before we got our current house and 80' driveway...

I'm in the same boat as you. I live in condo in downtown DC. I wouldn't even think of calling a self-storage place. They're all $$$$$.
I've posted a "parking wanted" ad on craigslist. I've gotten a few offers but they all a bit too far away. I'm first on a waitlist with a localish race shop....$25/month Either way, if the storage spot isn't close, it sure will be a pain to work on the car having to go hook it up to a tow vehicle and drag it to where you can work on it, and then tow it back.

I park mine on the street in front of my house with a cover over it. I pull it in the garage to work on it on the weekends so it gets moved almost every week. Just put a set of crap tires on it so the elements don't destroy your hoosiers.

You can actually rent a hanger as long as you have your "N" numbers, which are really cheap.
Cost on a fairly sizeable hanger is around $175-275 per month. If that was split 2 or three ways, it would be a no brainer. I have always wanted a place to wrench that has lots of room....
I pulled an engine out of a kids car down in OR...his father had a plane and rented a 40x60 hanger for $125/ month....

i'm going to have to find an airport around here. i know what an "N" number is (grandfather is private pilot), but what exactly do you have to do to get an "N" number. i know of a couple guys around here that would for sure rent space, and i've thought about the airplane hanger idea before. would they let you store trailers as well?

I'm in the same boat, i keep mine in a garage at my apartment, but they won't let me work on it here. (I've already had one run-in with "security"). It sucks loading the car up to drive or drag it 40 mins to my dad's place to work on it. I'm gonna have to check out the local airports!

This sounds like the ticket if you don't have a garage and have some fellow racers in the same boat.. What's the "N" number for and If it is supposed to be for an airplane how is it going to apply to a race car.
James who doesn't have these worries anymore.

The way it was explained to me was...the "N" number is just something that identifies your aircraft from others. Kinda like a license plate. Just tell them you are building an "experimental" and pull some scrap metal into the hanger....There is no requirement that says you have to build the plane at a certian pace...heck, maybe it will never even get past the "drawing board."

Inside my three-car garage.
You should park the race car in one of the two spots you already have, and then park your daily driver somewhere nearby. Of move to a bigger condo, townhome with more parking space.
Is this such a common problem for racers?

Yep. Race car and wife's car get garage spots. My daily driver gets the driveway.

Out of some very unfortunate events, and the loose of family memebers my car now has a shop, 30x30 area that is completely dedicated to working on cars, and since im the only one in the family that really wrenches alot that means i get domain. I do have to do oil changes, brake changes, and other maintenance on the family cars, but i think its worth it.
