Default Stripped bolt......CRX......on shock tower help!!!!!

ok today is my day off and i woke up kinda early to try and put these one my crx!

tokico illuminas

with sportline springs

i was excited and anxious to install them when it happened. I had all bolts out except for the shock tower ones. i went for the first one and lwent for the breaker bar. snap it broke loose no problem. After that it was on for the second one went for the breaker/cheater bar and nothing happened. Tried again and i i realized that the bar moved but the nut didnt........dammit

this is what the damage was!

now my first instinct was to go get some vise grips and take it out but i just wanted to post up to get people opinions and how you guys have dealt with stripped bolts/nuts in your ef....

Sears there are special sockets made by craftsman that remove stripped nuts and bolts. I think they cost like $20 or $30 bucks and you get a whole set. That is what I did when I had a stripped nut on my header.

if it's stripped use the grip.

of course, you will be replacing the nut and bolt

TAKE you'r hammer and put a 1mm smaller like those guys were talking about on it, and pound it on with the hammer till it's stuck, i have done this before. Anyways then you break it lose, when you get it off throw the socket with the nut stuck in it on the concrete a couple times to jar it loose from the socket, but make SURE you'r eyeball keeps track off that socket so it doesn't fly into the woods.

Btw if the 1mm smaller doesn't seem to still go on, just check a few differen't other size sockets for it and see which one would fit/get pounded on they're the best. EDIT: Thanks for the thumbs up, but this isn't that hard, lol...

I had the exact same problem with my shock tower in the rear. I tried vise grips and a smaller size socket but they didn't work. I had to cut the nut off with a dremel.

Get out the vice grips and go to town. Worst that could happen is you'd be buying a new strut mount - $15.

Get some six-point sockets, twelve point just rounds everything off.

And yes, those nuts require a 14mm socket.

here's a tip, make sure you put the nut on the other side of the top hat and tighten that down good. it will help relieve some of the friction holding that stripped nut in, and whatever method you try to screw it out much easier. i would even try to push the shock in the direction of the stripped nut to make the nut even looser, if you understand what im getting at.

anyway, good luck. vice grip seems like your best option, but its gonna be hard to clear the way to get a good grip on it.

oh yeah, and learn from your mistake, if youre ever in a situation where you need a breaker bar, make sure its a 6 point socket, not 12. if you were using a 6 pt socket when this happened, then you must not be using good tools. invest in good tools.

go ahead and try a 13mm 6pt socket or box end wrench first. and then try vice grips.
