Default automotive engineering schools

after reading and reading, i got really tired of kickin' down doors and shoot em up life. i think i want to get into the automotive engineering school and do stuff like participate in SAE challenges etc, i always wanted to know how to build up a car from just metal tubing. always wanted to build a tube frame crx.

well where are the schools at? i see there all over the east coast, any where else?
list em here! so people like me can become cool as people like you (who fabb some crazy **** up i.e tony1)

There are tons of schools that participate in FSAE. Just go to the FSAE website and look at the results lists from the competitions.

My school has it, but I'm not in it because the group is very cliquey and doesn't really listen to the input of new members. They also aren't willing to try new things, e.g. forced induction which is why they haven't finished well recently. I'd rather work on cars with/for my friends in my spare time and apply things from classes that way, and make some money while doing it.

Will a automotive engineering degreeing help me excel in a industry like drag racing? right now i am currently looking at the "school of automotive machinists, it seems like a good school that will teach me alot about high performance engines. But if **** hits the fans and i wont be able to attend that school, will an automotive engineering school be able to teach me the skills/ information i need to excel in the high performance/drag racing industry?

youd probably make more money as an automotive engineer for an automaker than working on a race car team. but money isnt everything and racing would be fun as hell. get your degree and get a loan to start your own race team

I agree. Im going to be enrolling into college for the same field. I would much rather be on a race team or have my own than design boring stock cars. I got an idea, lets just start out own car company, all RWD turbo y0!

For automotive engineering you better pack up and head for Detroit. I grew up there and got my BSME from Lawrence Technological University. There are dozens of other great unversities around there, all with direct links to the auto industry. In addition to the schools, you have great resources like the Detroit city library, who have the largest selection of automotive reference material in the world. Chances are your neighbors and professors will be from inside the auto industry.

In Detroit, the auto industry and engineering are a way of life.

If this is your attitude then you're just not cut out for the job. Principles in automotive engineering don't change because of the vehicle you work on. The objectives may change, but the principles don't.

You should persue engineering because you like engineering, and you should persue automotive engineering because you like cars. Ultimately, if you look to learn to make your own project car faster by learning skills in school and on the job you will become a better engineer, and all around more effective at what you do. High performance and motorsports are certainly a lot of fun to work with, but with the right attitude everything out there will be enjoyable.

You should work in a job you enjoy. Not designing injection molds for a Hyundai door handle. But hey if you get off on that, more power to you, have fun with it. I'd rather get a job where I didn't want to smash my face through my computer monitor every day.

Lol. No, thats the attitude of a college graduate that has lived/learned and now knows what to question when choosing a school. If a person goes into a career field like this thinking s/he gonna be designing engines for ferrari a year after they graduate their a fool. Everyone knows what the top position in their field is 'cause thats what they wanna do, its the bottom (and obtainable) position you have to look out for

So again, what are the graduates doing?

Kettering in Flint is ghetto as hell. I wouldn't wish living in Flint on anyone. Its a great school, but the city is a shitpile.
