Was it worth it?
My dad's 86 CRX finally gave in and there is a crack in the head gasket. He went to a Honda dealership today and picked up a 2000 Honda Accord EX 4 cyl. with 107k miles. The car was first a rental car and then it was privately owned. It was in good condition, it was checked by the mechanics there and went through some type of tests. Also he paid $10400.00 out the door. They originally had wanted $11K+ but my dad had cash in hand and said he wanted it for $10400.00 OTD and they were able to get that for him. It comes with a/c, power everything, very nice. Do you think the car with the high mileage was worth the price?
Your going to pay a price getting it from dealership no question. the mileage is fairly high for the year but with an accord that's not a big factor in the price, they hold their value well. I got my 99 2dr 5spd w/95.5k for 8,700 from a private seller just over a year ago. you didn't say much about the car but if there was nothing special worth mentioning i would say that was a normal dealership price, possible a tad on the high side.
Cool, thanks that is good to know. It came out clean with the Car Fax report. Other than that, the car is in good shape, no dents or dings, I know the previous owner was probably a smoker as there was cigarette holes in the seats but that didn't bother my father. He likes it a lot, so that's my main concern. Do you know how good security is on this car? Is it easy to steal? Is it easy to break in? Are these sought after in the black market.
I used to get rentals all the time...yeah never buy a rental. I've had all four wheels off the ground on 2 or 3 rentals. I've driven a chevy malibu in 2ed at 60 mph. DID you know a 97 explorer doesn't have a redline on the tac? That a new jeep liberty has gobs of power until you hit 35 or so?

my rule of thumb is:
High milege on a car thats 10ish or so years old is
. it means the car has most likely been well taken care off, and probably has been just 1 single owner who used the car for commuting. generally, when people keep cars for a long time, they treat it much better
High milege on a car that is only a few years old is
. more likely than not, the car was abused witn tons of non stop highway driving, and theres a good chance it wasnt always a privtley owned car. if it was private, the owner probably knew they'd be putting a TON of miles on in a short amount of time, and thusly didnt expect to own the car for long (which they arent doing, since the car is for sale). if they dont expect to keep it for the long run, chances are they didnt care for it too well

You have to keep in mind that the accord was bought from a Honda Dealership they do have inspections to make sure the car will run. Also and most importantly they give you a 100k mileage warranty. So if the car breaks and it is honda-malfuntion related they have to honor their own warranty.
Actually the car didn't come with a warranty so we're fucked if something breaks. It was from a real Honda dealership though. They have a good reputation, not known to rip people off.

Mine was in decent shape, 2000 EX manual tranny, 73k miles all the fluids were in good shape, it drove nice, everything worked. I payed right around $11k from a honda dealersip. The car was worth it to me because I know I can drive it for many years with no issues. If your dad is happy with the price, don't worry about it.
I think your pop got a good price considering you're in HI. KBB shows a retail value of 11750.
The only thing I am curious of is the timing belt/water pump change that's supposed to take place at 105k (or has this changed again). If that's been done, he should be good to go for a while..

My family got the Accord (now my car) in 2003 when it was a 2000 with 11k miles. They got it for around 13,500 with a new CD player installed (it didnt have one).
Sounds a little pricey 5 years later, but it's not too steep still
