Default TPM VIR North 9/5

First off driving over 1000 miles in less then 48 hours with a track day thrown in sucks ***. I'm so glad I was only along as a passenger and didn't have to drive.

My brother and I left NY at about 7 AM sunday, we met up with two other guys in NJ and were on the road by about 9:45AM. We arrived at VIR at 6:45 and the drive was immediately worth it. The country club like atmosphere just pours out of this place and I'm still in awe of the track and the whole complex. After this going back to pocono is going to really suck ***, you guys how no idea how good you have it down there.

I then proceeded to almost **** it all up the first session out. First lap is a warm up and second lap I pass a few people easily. I still don't know the track yet but I'm one bike behind an instructor, following his line with "the if they can do it so can I" attitude. I'm dragging knee through turns 1-5 and in retrospect I was feeling a bit too comfortable on a track I had only seen in videos and on paper.

I'm fine through turn 3 following the instructor and a really quick guy on a zx10 and as we go into 4 I'm moving pretty quick. I flick it in and my ******* peg feeler grabs lifts the rear and gets me all fucked up. The bike has a huge wobble and points me left heading down a grass hill towards a tire wall. I attempted to turn while in the grass but it didn't work too well and the front tucked. The bike was dug in pretty well so I got behind the rail and waited for the session to end. Corner worker and I picked it up, rode it back to the pits with some minimal damage. POS graves frame slider bent straight up, cracked plastics, bent fairing stay and a few scratches.

Pulled off those ******* feelers and was out the next session. Took me a few sessions to get the crash out of my head and get the track sorted.

Second from last session I caught my peg in the same corner. I passed an R6 on brakes on the inside going into 4. I had to flick it in hard and take a tighter line then I normally do because of the pass. I was a little too far inside and this time it caught on the rumble strips or whatever is on the curbing around VIR. The track photographer got it on film and from what it looks like the bike tried to tuck the front. I stood it up and ran acorss the inside of 5 and back onto the track and kept going without hitting anyone. Just a small detour and another pucker moment.

I'd show you the pics but the photographer has them copy protected on his site and I'm still debating if it's worth paying $65 for them.

I'm still dead tired and just glad I didn't hurt myself. It was a bad riding weekend and turn 4 took my mojo twice

But I still love VIR

I'll take some pictures of the damage tomorrow.

I'll talk him down

By the end of the day at the track he only had 6 uploaded of me.

The sequence of the pics where I caught my peg is backwards. It's the first row and the second two pictures on the second row.

So they go:

6543
21

1-You can just see the shoulder of the guy I passed in the upper left corner.

2-I'm just a little too close to that curbing and pretty low. It looks like I'm still counter steering though.

3-Looks lower here and as if the front is tucking and turning away from the camera.

4- Standing it up

5- Going towards the inside of turn 5 and the grass

6- Through the grass and back onto the track

Does that make sense?
